Chief O'Brien- Baddest Man In The Galaxy?

Mr Silver

Commodore
Newbie
I really think Miles O'Brien (DS9) is one of the most badass characters in the history of Trek...

* He fights in holodecks Wars for fun

* He is a married man, yet grabs the attention of Bajoran and Cardassian women alike

* He is the only character ever to utter "Bollocks!"

* He drinks "Real Ale"

* He goes kayaking, knowing he'll likely break something

Not to start another Robau thread, but I noticed the other night, that there are so many examples of O'Brien being a true badass, far removed from the "everyman" that he's initally seen to be, the above are just a few examples of the "badass" O'Brien

What are yours?

Well here in US/Canada, bollocks isn't really considered a bad word and imo, is below "Damn"

Well the fact that before he was on the Enterprise, he fought in many battles along the Cardassian border, so one could consider him an expert in combat.

He was sent on many covert operations such as when he infiltrated the Orion Syndicate.

He faced Section 31 with Bashir when Section 31 was virtually untouchable by any other organization.

He took his punishment like a man when he was captured and was almost sentenced to death by the Cardassians.

Even his clone who was virtually identical to the real O'Brien decided to go against orders, sneak into secret files and attempt to escape a conspiracy by Starfleet before being shot and killed.

He spent a considerable amount of years locked away in isolation within his mind (which was only a short period of time in reality) and fought his own insanity and gained his life back. Well not exactly isolated the whole time, as there was one other person, whom he ended up killing with his own bare hands for a couple of scraps of food.

Not to mention 90% of the episodes that had him in it, usually had him being beaten up, tortured, shot or otherwise suffering some sort of pain.

It's funny.... most of TNG, he was just stuck behind a transporter comm and was perfectly safe..... but in DS9, they dragged him through the wringers twice over..... he was the stations' whipping boy..... literally.

Added:

And how could I forget that he took on Garak in Terok Nor and won.... he also almost killed him too.

Don't screw with O'Brien, he doesn't just have an Irish Temper..... he can pop your brain out of your skull with just a self sealing stem bolt and a phase induced plasma coupler.

Chief O'Brien is my personal hero and an inspiration!

That whipping boy thing actually makes him more relatable. It's the difference between James Bond and Indiana Jones. Indy gets always beaten, crushed and bloodied, but he always carries himself through his ordeals. Like a man. And he has funny habits.

O'Brien is a lot like Indy in that way.

He has that common man thing working for him. But he's not just a common man, like regular Joe's usually would be in tv shows filled with special people. He's really... important you know.

I've always liked O'Brien. I wrote a short fan-fic about O'Brien becoming an officer and winding up as captain of the Enterprise.

As a full-blooded Irishman, it's hard not to love O'Brien.

Agreed.... though I'm not exactly full blooded. Canadian, living in New Scotland, father was Irish, mother was Scottish..... though my family at one time did rule much of southern Ireland a while back.... I still follow much of my Irish roots.

Eh, the Scottish are pretty much Irish anyway. :) Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to hide in case Deckerd shows up and proves me wrong again.

I would have LOL'd if he'd whipped Mr Maquis' skinny ass right there in front of Benjamin Lafayette Sisko for screwing w/the Defiant's cloak.
