Chekov?

EJA

Fleet Captain
So, does anyone have any ideas as to how Pavel Chekov in the new timeline was born four years earlier than he was in the original timeline? How does the whole destruction of the Kelvin thing cause this to happen?

If he's 22 in the movie, then he was born in 2236 and thus the birth could well be influenced by something that happened in 2233.

Perhaps Andrei Chekov got to it faster when George Kirk wasn't there to woo his would-be wife?

And already a graduated Ensign in 2258? Hmh. Doesn't make things any more difficult, though. George Kirk's Casanova antics might have delayed Andrei Chekov's efforts by four years in either case.

The destruction of the Kelvin changed Starfleet assignments and other events, so that Chekov's parents had a child four years earlier. They still named their son Pavel, but he's more like a brother to the original Pavel Chekov rather than an identical counterpart.

Yeah, I thought he looked a little different.;)

I really enjoyed Anton's portrayal as a young Chekov but he really needs to calm a wee bit down don't you think he was a bit hyper.

He is an enthusiastic wunderkind. If he wasn't so hyper Kirk and Sulu might have splattered. Plus he seems to think quickly and come up with good ideas when engaged in hyperness.

This is easy.

Imagine what the destruction of the Kelvin did to the mindset of the Federation and Starfleet. Do you think they would change their priorities after such a thing happened?

Of course they would. Based on the testimony of the eyewitnesses, and not having any idea of what was coming next, they would put themselves on war footing, ramping up the development of weapons and shielding systems.

And then, Chekov's father would use this uncertainty to get his old lady to let him go bareback earlier than before:

"Ve may die tomorrow, babushka-britches. Nero has been sighted in Minsk! Let me stir your borscht one time before the end comes ..."

Joe, imaginationeer

The best explanation, by far. :techman:

Does anyone really believe that someone being born 4 years earlier would be the same character? An entirely different Pavel Chekov in that universe.

Who says he's the same Pavel Chekov?

He's got the same name, but he could easily be the product of a different sperm/egg combo. Nature being what it is, this one is certainly smarter than the TOS Pavel.

His parents gave their male child the name Pavel. If this one hadn't have come along, they would have given that name to the old one when he came along.

For instance: my name is Joseph, after my mother's Uncle Joseph who died as a child.

I was born in 1968. If my parents had had a male child in 1964 and not me, they would have named him Joseph.

Imagination.

...Indeed. If you had an older brother who looks as cute as Anton Yeltsin, would you tell Sulu about him?

Nerdy much?

Seriously, who the heck cares? I'm not going to damn JJ till eternity for this one, I don't think...

And to be truly nerdy back...
And was Chekov's DOB ever established on screen? (did TOS ever give the actual calendar date? I know the movies did, but...) If not, then surely it's not "canon" as a tried-and-true Trek nerd would understand the term, hmmmm?
