Charlie Jade

I don't know if it did huge ratings... it's just that pretty much everything is coming out on DVD these days and this seems like a natural for the Canadian audience, especially since it's not shown on any CHUM channels anymore.

Just started watching this show today. Its different alright and some confusing. The voice overs bug me cause im not sure whom is talking and the shaky cam is driving me nuts .

Weird to seeing the character sitting there and then see flashes of that character fighing someone or beating someone up for money and then flash to see them still sitting there. That is weird.

Like one moment the black girl, im thinking its Reena was sitting somewhere and then see flashes of her mugging some guy, then flash to her still sitting in same place and then again flash to her finishing up mugging the guy.

Different yes.

Im only up to the 3rd episode and i see metion of 21 episodes , i only have 20 and the last one i have is Ouroboros. So is that the last one?

I guess im the normal american as its hard to follow sometimes but like it or not i'll watch the whole season.

Is this for sale anywhere in the states or is it just region 2?
CAuse my copy sucks and has subtitles that isnt english on all episodes so far and its worse than vcr in pic quailty too so watching that cam shaky on my computer isnt fun.

It's just Region 2. There are no Region 1 DVDs available that I am aware of. I don't have the Region 2 DVDs yet (I'm holding out for the exclusive), but they seem to be of good quality. Only the first half of the seaosn is currently available.

Yes, Reena is the name of the black woman. If you're watching the show consecutively (that is, from the first episode), all I suggest is that you pay very close attention. Jade is a bit disorienting at first, but it's not confusing provided you keep a close eye on what's going on. Brief flashbacks are very commonplace, sometimes to remind people of an earlier plot point.

As for the voiceovers, most of these are provided by Charlie Jade himself. Offhand, I believe Reena also has one in Episode 2. And I agree, the shakycam can be infuriating. The camera gets more stable as the show progresses, though.

'Ouroboros' is the last episode. Twenty episodes were produced in the first season, and then another episode was made later to be inserted between, I think, sixteen and seventeen to explain some plot points. That episode has not been shown here and may not be on the R2 DVDs when released.

How does Jade see parts of the Alpha when he is in Beta and when he was in Alpha how does he seen that train come at him.
Does it ever explain that, and im guessing its the cause of his headaches.

The lack of Reg 1 and only half on first season on dvd could explain why this was so hard go get.

That 01 Boxer is a bad ass, and do they explain why only he can travel to all 3 and isnt there a version of him in all 3? And the same for Jade?

Im off to watch ep 4.

I've just added (and reserved) both parts to my rental list. It'll be good to finally get to see what happened after the first episode.

There are explanations, Snick27. I'm not saying anything more than that. Well, also that you have to pay close attention for them to make sense. ;)

Glad to see you're giving it a try, Bob. :)

You'd have to go out of your way to find a DVD player that doesn't have a region free handset hack on it these days.

Indeed. And the Region 2 DVDs are British, so you'd get an English language boxset without any problematic subtitles. :)

I just want to say it seems that finding a duplicate of yourself on another world is the exception, rather than the rule.

No Sliders here where you run into one of your main casts' doppelgangers every other week.

What I've seen of it I really enjoyed. Why no US release ? I'd buy it if I had the chance
Plus the scenery/locations were beautiful

I guess I'll have to 'download' another few episodes

Then I would ask if you have a regionless DVD player, because the entire series will be out on R2 in a matter of days. Am I repeating myself? Yep. An answer to your other question about why it wasn't shown in the US can be found above (according to firehawk12, it was considered too smart - which, to my mind anyway, seems peculiar. There are some razor sharp TV shows on American airwaves right now, such as Dexter, already an all-time favourite of mine). The show has been shown in an awful number of other countries; so I do hope there's still a chance it will find the American outlet it deserves.

Incidentally, having now seen the series to its conclusion I can assure prospective readers that the ending is both satisfying and, quite candidly, mindblowing. The final episode is one of the strongest of the series. Looking back on the experience, watching Jade I can safely say without exaggeration is one of the most fun experiences I've ever had with sci-fi TV.

I found the final episode the worst of the bunch. To me nothing was answered and more questions raised. And all the flash forward, flash back and so forth was hard to deal with for me.

I say the whole series was interesting, though i do feel they could of cut alot out and made this a better 13 episode season.

Felt they tried to cram to much story into this show.

Really how did Jade go back and forth with water, how did 01 do the same, what was with the ending with the guys in grey and what was with all those other guys hooked up with tubes?

But still better than anything on tv right now which is sad.

The identity of the guys in grey was revealed, or rather alluded to, by 01 Boxer in episode thirteen, "Through a Mirror Darkly". He reveals that he doesn't know who they are but they seem to be very important; though his explanation as them as the cause of all this seems to be him lying between his teeth. They're not from any of the three universes and their agenda is largely unknown. Charlie had a few run-ins with them during the course of the series. Charlie and 01 Boxer could travel - not to mention the little girl have her visions of the invisible people - because the water they were using was contaminated by Vexcor. Why Boxer and Jade specifically could travel remains unknown, but Boxer seems to know why.

I saw the first couple of episodes last year but it didnt really grab me, I should go back and give it another go :)

Thanks Kegek, I do wonder if season 2 would of been about these guys in gray and answered alot of the questions we have. Its a shame it probably wont ever get made.

Those posts were made in 2006. As I understand the official situation, the financing wasn't approved and that's why the second season wasn't made.

I just came across this series by chance and am really impressed with it. I know it is a Canadian and South-Afican co-production - does anyone know if any progress has been made for a season 2?

I recommend this series to anyone who likes a complex story with interesting characters that have some depth.

Honestly, I don't understand why sci-fi couldn't pick this up especially considering they are ready to blow money on stuff like nuWho and Torchwood.

Torchwood doesn't air on Sci-Fi and Dr. Who is as big as Star Trek the new series has won two Hugos and is up for a Nebula, it's a world wide hit.

And as much I'd like to see Charlie Jade I'd like to see the similary structured Flatland more.
