I want "I Can Make You Hate." But I might have to go back and read his older ones.
^ - I'm just warming up to get it
Gotta love the look on his face on the cover.
I watched the year in review one and I'm surprised he brought up the Jimmy Carr thing since he was peripherally related to it... but hey, if Carr can make jokes about it now, why not I suppose.
Glad to have him back any how!
It's a really good collection in that one. I actually got it signed by the man himself the day it came out. He was struggling to be offensive enough so just wrote 'You shit!" and signed the title page. Legend. All his bile is clearly reserved for clips of things like Splash and those American gun adverts.
^When signing, does he take suggestions? -I'd love a copy of anything of his with his catchphrase: "Go away"
Well he was struggling to write anything so he'd probably appreciate the help
The long awaited sequel to Gameswipe! Well, not really, but it should be good anyway.
^I was going to say that Brooker (along with Dara) is one of the few cultural commentators that 'gets' video games.
One of my favourite Brooker moments:
2013 Wipe and Weekly Wipe series 2 have been announced.
How Video Games Changed the World airs on Saturday at 9pm, C4. To whet your appetite, here's a video of Charlie trying to teach Jon Snow, who has never played any sort of video game before, how to play PS4. It's... interesting.
He was complaining about that on Twitter last night. How fusty does Jon Snow come across in that video? It's like late 80s/early 90s games reporting there.
I thought Jon was just trying to rile Charlie up at first, but by the end it genuinely seemed like he didn't want to be there. I've seen people defending him by saying he's a news anchor and was interrogating Charlie as he would a politician, but if that's the case then he was doing a really poor job of it. How many times did Charlie start that sentence about the interface problem with games only to be cut short so Jon could complain about some random nonsense in the game? If the interviewee can't get his point across because the interviewer mistook a megaphone for a gun then the interviewer was doing a bad job.
Typical old fogey response to things they don't understand... Digital!? why would I invest in a new phonograph when it won't even play my classic shellack?
Not the Jon Snow I was expecting.
Brooker was on top form with Snow though, a dog at the controls of a helicopter. lol
Poor journalism from Snow, though. At least do five minutes of research beforehand.
Some people just can't seem to process video games at all. It's really quite odd. As a radio host, I remember, a couple years ago, in some kind of quiz, that I asked a lady a question about Pac-Man. She immediately panicked and said "Oh I know nothing about these modern things!" to which I replied "Modern things? It came out in 1980, more than thirty years ago", a point she found utterly unconvincing.
Charlie Brookers 2013 wipe BBC2 10.40 Saturday 28th dec.
Excellent. I'd never know when these things were on if not for this thread.
