Charisma Carpenter Angel question

I had read somewhere she had a drug problem and was kicked off the show because of it. But since no one else is mentioning that here, I guess that means it wasn't true?

You're talking about Glenn Quinn aka "Doyle."

I actually always figured that at some point they'd bring his character back.....and the the actor when and got himself killed thanks to the same problem that got him kicked off the show in the first place :(

There's no official word on what went down between Charisma and Joss. The original plan for season 4 was for EvilCordy to be the big bad - but I don't know how that was supposed to work, or if Cordy was planned to be killed off at the end of the season? But when Charisma got pregnant, the writers had to re-work the storyline to accomodate the pregnancy (hence the Jasmine arc, and comatose Cordy in the last episodes of the season so that Charisma could give birth).

This could have created an issue between Charisma and Joss, though personally I would be really insulted if he held a grudge against her because she had a child. Maybe Joss had always planned not to have Cordelia survive into season 5 (after all, if she was supposed to be the Big Bad, maybe Angel would have been forced to kill her?). Given the storyline and theme for season 5, it did make sense to leave Cordelia out of the picture - at least in the beginning. Cordelia never would have gone along with the W&H deal. She was considered the "heart" of the show in seasons 1-3, and by stragetically removing the heart, it makes it easier for the good guys to work for the bad guys.

However, I wished that the writers would have brought her back for an extended arc instead of one episode. As much as I love "You're Welcome" - it's an amazing episode - I would have liked to have seen more Cordelia in season 5.

I doubt she was supposed to 'live' to season 5. From the first episode her visions started, the writers started writing her 'death'.

No, it was for Carpenter in addition to the drug rumors for Quinn. As I distantly recall, it was something about her being unable to perform or remember her lines at the end of S3 giving the ultimatum about firing her... then she got pregnant and written off anyway. I dunno it's been awhile maybe I'm mismembering it all up :p

If there were bad blood, A why would she have come back for Season 5, and B why would she have gone to the recent Buffy Paley Fest reunion event

^Not to derail this thread, but I can't help but notice your signature. I have to ask. In what way do Heroes and Buffy at all resemble each other? :wtf:

Well its just what David Boreanaz said in an interview, made me smile

Q:The most overrated show on TV is...
A: Heroes. We were doin' that in '97 with Buffy. I love all the people on Heroes, I know all the actors, but I think it's overrated. I personally don't get it. Should I go down my list of overrated shows that are coming out? Knight Rider, please, don't give it a chance. Who cares about a car that can talk? I did — in the '80s!

I think there's a point in some of the themes and structure etc. Everyone wanks on about Heroes likes it so fresh and original. Gimme a break

Well, can't say I agree with him. Perhaps that it's not as fresh as everyone says, but it bears next to no resemblance to Buffy.

We now return you to the Charisma's departure from Angel saga.

Strangely, considering I love Heroes, I kinda agree on it's overrated, and nothing too original in terms of story.

I don't mean to further derail things but I agree that Heroes is overrated. Mostly because the hardly any of the episodes stand on their own in any way. Compare that to Angel. Angel had an awesome story arc and was much richer if you watched it from start to finish but the individual episodes were still filled with enough action & story & character development on their own that they can stand alone. Few shows have mastered such a balance of arc & stand-alone as Angel.

Heroes is X-Men rebooted.

That said, I love the show - both of them.

Agreed, Heroes is terribly overrated and nothing new at all.

I heard the same thing - from what I remember hearing this was why Cordy went off to Mexico for several episodes with Gru halfway through Season 3...

YES! That's it! I had forgotten about her sudden absence from the end of S3. That was (what I remember hearing) the reason for that.

^

I heard that happen b/c Angel couldn't be dark if somebody like Charisma was there. Her being all sunny and happy like.
