Characters you'd like to see

Seem's Fuller's got the right idea. No one in the first season (except possibly a cameo in the first episode) and only a couple later on. Pike/Number One in one episode Spock and his mom in another. Maybe a familiar admiral or two but I don't want to see a young Kirk.

A young Klingon officer named Kor, shrewdly assassinating his way up the ranks.

Kor

I agree with others who said that the Star Trek Universe is large and too many cameos ruin the illusion.

That said, a cameo of Number One and one of Soong's ancestors would make me happy. Number One because her character was interesting, but never really explored, and Soong's ancestor because Brent Spiner's appearances have nearly become a running gag -- and I like Spiner as an actor so this has never been a problem for me.

T'Pol
T'Pau
Phlox
Shran
Captain (Commodore ?) Nogura
Robert April
Commodore (Captain ?) Decker
Captain Pike
Doctor Piper
Number One
Spock
T'Pring
Ambassador Sarek
Amanda Grayson
A random Soong
Dax
I would think the human Enterprise crew would be long dead by then.

Robau may be off limits due to being Bad Robot's creation (?) and I'd rather not see any of the main TOS crew recast (again), but would like to see Urban and Quinto guest. I wouldn't mind any cameo's done with old footage and CG, like in the DS9 tribble episode.

While the universe may be HUGE, Starfleet is smaller than that. Anyone who plays a significant role in it will be mentioned at least. That said, maybe DIS will destroy the illusion that the main characters of other serieses play as big a role as they appear to in Starfleet. For all we know, several ships might be even more important than the Enterprise - it's just our skewed perspective by way of the Enterprise being the protagonists' ship in TOS that makes us think so.

I don't think we need to see any of the Enterprise crew. Robert April or Christopher Pike as an exception if the story warranted it.

Some of the same flag officers however may be interesting, the Admirals or Commodores. Maybe past Captains mentioned in TOS (before they went mad or bad).

Not to mention I don't see Chris Hemsworth doing TV guest appearances at this stage of his career.

I believe he has said that he'd be willing to appear as Thor in Agents of SHIELD at some point, but wonder if he'd do something similar in the Star Trek TV universe.

Never heard of him... :rommie:

However there's a couple of characters who could appear: Tuvok and Dax.

Admittedly it would be Emony Dax as I believe (without looking it up) that she'd be the one that knew McCoy at the academy.

And Tuvok would be old enough. Question is, could Tim Russ get away with playing him now?

Yeah, she was. But the previous Dax host actors wouldn't play Emony. If she was young enough to attract McCoy's attention, she would be likely younger than they are now (52 and 45). Unless McCoy had a thing for older women at the time or they could look young enough.

I'm not expecting Terry Farrell or Nicole de Boer to appear but can't remember if we've seen anyone play Emony yet (apart from Chase Masterson but that was in 'Facets' when Emony took over Leeta's body).

I'm not particularly keen on seeing anyone from the other shows. But Bruce Greenwood as Pike would just be amazing!

Ebony Dax mighty be interesting in that she'd actually be a different character. But generally speaking, I'd rather no appearances by known characters. At least not for a couple of years, let Discovery stand alone.

I'd like to see Jeffery Combs, either as an aging Shran or in a completely diferent role.

You know he'll be at least two characters ;)

Regarding my list, I should have specified only small parts for one or two of the more obscure characters in season one. Any of the rest should be used carefully in later seasons...

Tuvok was born in 2264, the year before Kirk took command of the Enterprise. He won't be around in a show set a decade prior to Kirk's five year mission.

I like it when familiar characters make appearances, but I hate recasting. Barring time travel, that leaves the Enterprise characters and I'd love to see any of them make an appearance. Unfortunately, they'd all be dead at this point, except for T'Pol and possibly Phlox. I'd be happy to see either of them. I doubt if the show runners would bother with this, but I know a few people who would be very happy if they did an episode where Trip Tucker was brought out of stasis and healed with the more advanced medical technology of the era. Another nice touch would be to see historical tapes of the Enterprise crew-- perhaps a speech by President Archer, or something like that.

We could also see iconic characters that have never been portrayed in live action, such as Robert and Sarah April.

Actually if i remember correctly archer is still alive. He dies the day of the enterprise being launched.

So he could appear but literally at the end of his life.

Even the alternative time line made mention of him being alive long enough to overlap with the start of scottys career.

I think the launch of the Enterprise is more like 20 years before Kirk took command though.
