Characters You Would Have Liked to See!

People:

Wanted to see what kind of characters you would have liked to see in any of the ST shows as regulars.

I always wanted to see a Tellarite as a crew member. I believe ENT established that Tellarites argue as part of their socialization, that to them, it's a sign they're fond of one another when they argue. It would be interesting to see how humans, who are supposed to be more culturally evolved, would tolerate a constant stream of invective, no matter how well-intentioned, from a Tellarite crew member.

I've been intrigued by two "blended" characters: when Odo and Curzon merge briefly, and the transporter accident that created Tuvix from Tuvok and Neelix. I would have liked to see a character similar to Tuvix: A recent Starfleet graduate who's caught in a transporter accident with maybe three other foks, creating a new individual. (I would have liked it be someone who is part Andorian/Aenar, part Vulcan, part Klingon, and part human.)

And a lead character who is human but not born on Earth, a type with a broader interstellar perspective.

What do you all think?

TNG/DS9/VOY era - A Medusan who "wears" a humanoid body suit to fit in with the humanoid Federation races but is capable of leaving the suit in its natural energy form. Medusans could be engineers, navagators or spies. In the energy form, the Medusan would be deadly to humanoids, so there would be multiple safeguards built into the suits.

ENT era - A real Boomer type, not someone green and naive like Mayweather but much more streetwise about life in space, how to deal with Klingons and Orions, etc.

I would have liked to see Tobin Dax on ENT. As for who should play him? Right here of course.

(seriously though, I hear he auditioned to play Shinzon in Nemesis)

Also ENT-wise: I remember when the Vulcans first appeared there, everyone was pissed that they were so snarky and angry and generally acted completely unlike their other appearances. What if this had extended towards other races as well? We could have seen first contact with an imperialistic, expanding empire called...the Betazoids.

Actually, for ENT, I would like to have seen an all-human crew just stumbling around out there for a couple of years. No Vulcan science officer bringing the benefits of a well-traveled species to the job (not to mention a 1,000-year-old database). No superdoctor who can fix everything.

As for characters being added later on, say in Season 3, T'Pol and Phlox join the crew to help increase their chances of success in the Xindi mission.

The idea of a Tellarite joining the crew could have been very interesting. Especially if paired with a character with a strong personality who could handle the agitation.

A couple of ideas:

I wouldve liked to have seen a character on Voyager who wouldve been a hired mercenary from the Maquis crew. Not a just a regular outlaw but a remorseless killer acting as a hired gun for the Maquis that got stuck with Voyager. They sort of touched on the idea with Lon Suder, but I wanted to see someone who was in total control of their impulses. Someone who the entire crew views as scary and tries to avoid them. I think the total difference in the prim proper Starfleet crewmember and the cold calculating killer would be excellent.

Another type of crewmember from Voyager wouldve been the guy that only signed on to Starfleet to get into the astronomy school. The guy that doesnt want to be there and just cruises by so he can get home. I liked the possible dynamic of the guy that just dogs it and doesnt like the whole team atmosphere.

you mean "Good Shepherd" on VGR...

i would've liked an Andorian regular (like Shran was supposed to've been in ENT S5)

a female captain who was consistently well-written and didn't turn into a crazed psycho every other week

an Asian captain (male or pref. female)

an alien captain

(last 2 esp. in TOS)

Blech, I can't stand that guy. :p Send in his far more talented evil twin to do the job: Ben Browder, who needs to be on Trek someday...

Good idea for a thread, tho! Off to the DS9 forum.

For some reason, I'm envisioning the 22nd C Betazoids as the Centauri from B5. :D But nice idea! Psychic-ish imperialists would be formidable. Also, how would Vulcans, who are psychic-ish in a different way, relate to them.

My street-smart Boomer character would take T'Pol's role. But I like this idea, too. ENT could add alien characters over time, such as Shran, but only after introducing them as aliens, and therefore in conflict with Our Heroes in various ways.

I would like to have seen a Dauphin (shapeshifter from second season TNG) join the DS9 crew during the conflict with the Founders.

Also, where are the robots? Not counting Data, but shouldn't there be more evidence of robotics in Star Trek? Even if it is just simple maintenance and cleaning. Put a Roomba on the Enterprise in ENT, or at least make Porthos a future Aibo. ;)

People:

Nice ideas, everyone. Here's one that occurred to me: a Vorta regular on DSN who defects from the Dominion and asks for asylum. He/she could be viewed with distrust by our older, more established cast, because of their bad dealings with Weyoun and the rest of the Dominion.

Although they already did this, it's too bad they wrote out Romulan T'Rul after the two-parter introducing the Defiant and revealing the Founders' true identity. How would someone like that fit on the station, esp. since she pointedly says, "I'm not here to make friends."?

Temis, I like your idea of a strong, wise Boomer character. Frankly, that's who Captain Archer should have been on ENT. A character like that would've been more qualified to command Enterprise and been more interesting than Mr. "I Have A Grudge Against Vulcans 'Cause They Wouldn't Let My Daddy Play In Space!" And maybe switch the grudge and backstory with Mayweather, making him a gung-ho, yet slightly bitter young ensign.

I can just see Majel playing an ancestor of Lwaxana, who in this timeframe is a total badass no-nonsense Admiral of the Fleet or something.

Other characters I'd like to see:

- The Kzin, as in the episode that was considered but never got made ("Kilkenny Cats")

- Shran. I think he would have probably taken over as leader of the MACOs. He is, after all, an experienced soldier. He'd fit in perfectly as the MACO commander.

I was thinking that too. But then, imitation is the highest form of flattery, and the last refuge of the lazy mind. :p

I would have liked to see a Romulan main character. I've always found them intriguing, but they are never explored in that much detail

A "mustang" (figurative) would've been interesting, too. That's an enlisted person who gets promoted to commissioned officer status. There are varying definitions, but that's the one with the broadest meaning. It would be if, say, Chief O'Brien either went to Starfleet Academy or the 24th century equivalent of officers training school and got a commission as an ensign. -- RR
