Characters Talking About Past Events

Well after finishing Star Trek: Enterprise one thing I caught on to and liked was how some of the episodes had the characters talk or discuss events from the previous episode. It made the characters and events they lived seemed more real because they would talk about or mention it in the latest episode.

I remember one of the early season 3 episodes, the episode after they'd all transformed into space monkeys and back, Archer still had some itchy scabby skin left over. I was, like, "OMG consequences!"

Now imagine if the psychological scars remained too. Really remained. Everything. They'd be a flying mental hospital.

I had a similar experience with the automated repair station episode. "OMG! Lasting damage to the ship!"

And then two weeks after the ship was repaired stem-to-stern by the Automated Repair Station Of Eliminating Unnecessary Characters, the ship was becalmed by the need to get a broken part replaced. Still, baby steps.

To paraphrase the good Doctor Johnson, an instance of an Enterprise character referring to a previous episode is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well, but you are surprised to find it done at all. :p
