Character guide to Voyager

Infinitus

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Here is how I veiw the crew of the USS Voyager, the shortest short-bus in all of Starfleet.

Janeway: The sadistic captain. She loves genicide, coffee, crushing the hopes of her crew and choosing the solution that will cause the most destruction and compermises the mission.

Chakotay: The first officer and former guerila leader. He is the uber-Native American stereotype whose character-building episodes are just about his people. He also uses a lot of pyschodelic drugs(like when he talked to his dad in Basics).

Tuvok: The second officer. He is actually one of the ONLY useful member of this crew of morons.

Torres: The Half-Klingon chief engineer. She has emotional problems, has violent outbursts from time to time, and if you ever seen the '37's' cannot detect shit with out a tricorder. She reminds me of my girl-friend.

Paris: The flight controller and medical assistant. He is another useful character. He developed a warp drive that can go up to infinity(and even though they found a cure for the mutation side-effect, THEY STILL DON'T USE IT BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING LAZY) He reminds me a lot like me.

The Doctor: The best character in the entire show. His character episodes are the best episodes in the series.

Harry Kim: Janeway's bitch and Paris's best friend. His wooden acting gets on my nerves. Also if you look closely at some of his character episodes, you get the felling that Harry is gay.

Neelix: The most annoying character Trek has ever produced(surpassing the Wesley Crusher level of annoyence.) He is 100% useless and should have been killed in the very first episode(the only time Janeway ever showed mercy).

Kes: Neelix's elf girl-friend. I don't have a problem with Kes, but two things piss me off about her(what doesn't piss me off you may ask yourselves). The first thing is that she is hot and Neelix is her boy-friend, she must have really low standards. The second thing is her race, Ocampa. They live only nine years and can only concive a child once. This species was fucked way before the Caretaker showed up.

Seven of Nine: Another useful character. She is beautiful, intellegent, and her character-building episodes are some of the best I've seen. Plus, her breasts are beautiful:drool:

There you go. This is how I view these numskulls.

And just what did you prove? That you don't care about somone else's feelings about any of these characters. You don't have to like them, you do need to respect that someone else does.

My opinion is that Janeway Rules, and it's every bit as valid as yours.

He didn't say it was a problem.

Besides, this is his oppinion about the characters, and he's entitled to it. He doesn't have to respect anything.

Anyway, this thread gets a "Cool story, bro!" from me...

He didn't say it was a problem.
But it is strongly implied. Read it again, all the other things he says about the character are negatives. Why should this suddenly be a thing he likes about Kim? And even if he does mean it that way, I'm sure he will be able to clarify. After all that's why I asked him about it in the first place. ;)

Oh, he can think whatever he likes, so much is for certain. But I'm also entitled to ask him questions about it. Whether he chooses to answer them is another thing, though.

I actually find myself liking Neelix. His metrion cascade background is great and he does have several good episodes. From a writing standpoint a cook/morale officer/trade negotiator is flexible character to write for. He also provides a wonderful foil for Tuvok.

The only time he was unenjoyable was in his extreme jealousy over Kes. Since he was there for the whole seven seasons that certainly wasn't every other scene. You really find him more irritating than the ever increasing holographic insanity of the doctor?

If someone else doesn't start one I will create a seperate defense of Neelix topic.

Janeway: I only agree with the coffee comment

Chakotay: Totally agree

Tuvok: Agree with the sentiment, not the statement

Torres: Fiesty girlfriend!

Paris: I agree he was important

The Doctor: The best character in the entire show. His character episodes are the best episodes in the series.

Harry Kim: Yepers

Neelix: Mostly agree, but I love the actor

Kes: I agree. I also wish they grew her hair out by the end of the first season. It might have saved the character.

Seven of Nine: I agree, even as a hetero woman

Kes: I agree. I also wish they grew her hair out by the end of the first season. It might have saved the character.
This is a curious statement. Why do you think longer hair would have saved the character?

She just became a more attractive looking character and if the introduction of Seven of Nine and the saving of Garret Wang's job by appearing in a list of beautiful people has taught us anything is that looks count when getting or keeping a job!
And personally I started really taking notice of Kes and liking her when she got the long hair and I know other people did too, that counts.

But even if hair length made the Kes character more attractive, she was still very different from the kind of physical attractiveness that Seven represented. It would in no way have made the kind of change in the show that bringing on Ryan would. If it did, then she would have stayed, since she had the long hair before the end of her run.

No one is saying that, we're talking about saving the character here not the show. No character could replace Seven just as no character could replace Kes. Seven was not brought on to replace a character being fired, she was brought on and as a consequence a character had to be let go. We're just saying if Kes had been as "aesthetically pleasing" for a longer time, someone else and more deserving (Garret Wang, I'm looking at you) might have been fired instead.
