So maybe this has been asked before but why did the changlings look like oddo when they took solid form - he looked that way because he couldn't adequately mimic humanoid form.....but they could, so why did they look like that.....i mean every one of them would basically mimic him

was it some kind of sign of reverence for him and when changlings revealed themselves to people previous to their involvement with oddo, did they also still look like that

also....did oddo have a penis (or did he whip one up when it was required)

Out of universe, it was a visual clue for the viewer that this person is a changeling.

Since Odo's natural form was liquid obviously he wouldn't have a penis. Also since he didn't eat and wasn't interested in humanoid coupling (prior to season 3 anyways) he would have no need for one. Later when he hooked up with Kira I'm sure he would have whipped up a few when needed.

By the way, I enjoy DS9, but I'm not an expert. Did they ever bother to explain why Odo chose to take on the form of a male rather than a female?

I'd argue that the "Odo look" on the Changelings in "The Search" is there solely in honor of Odo, a celebrated member of the Hundred (plus something of an addled child, so you have to make the world simple for him). For the same reason, the so-called Female Founder maintains that look when interacting with Odo - and gets stuck with the look even after Odo's departure because of the disease that makes shapeshifting difficult.

but the Vorta have seen the Changelings before they ever met Odo, so what did they look like then? - was Odo a kind of default humanoid form that changelings adopted and that's why he took that form (when accurately mimicking someone wasn't an option) - and what was it that determined gender - how do liquid creatures have genders at all - was it a choice or do the founders have genders when they're in liquid form - presumeably the female changeling had breasts because the founders did have solid gender forms (possibly that they evolved form)

Kira wasn't his first lover though - there was the (deliberately) amnesiac spy that he protected against her enemies thinking she was just a damsel in distress. It's likely he's had a couple of understanding talks as to what sort of anatomy is appropriate. Or, y'know, he could have just read some medical texts.

He was also joined with Curzon at one point and has his memories from that. And that guy got plenty of tail.

I always thought Odo and the Changeling commander sitting on the bed scene was just set to totally gross everyone out. Then, because it worked so well, they got Kai Winn and Gul Dukat to get jiggy too.
