I'm sorry but what? a god know calls a length of rope "instrumentality" must be pretty damn dumb.

I have no idea how you get that from the context of the episode.

"No idea"? Please don't take this as an insult, but that seemed obvious. Trelane declared his instrumentality unbreakable, then the shadow of the noose was cast on the wall. The connection eluded you?

Do you know what "instrumentality" means? In FORBIDDEN PLANET the captain and doctor talk of "a civilization without instrumentalities." They didn't mean a civilization devoid of dials and gauges. They meant no physical tools—including rope. Or at least the Krell had the ability to "will" a length of rope into being—which puts Trelane in the same category. Both still used machines, or at least one big machine, but smaller manual or powered tools as we know them no longer existed.

Charlie X would really be the Thasians, and if his power was a just a taste of what they could do, they could do a lot. I'd rank them right there with Gary Mitchell, even higher maybe.

I agree that Charlie (and the Thasians) should be top two on any ST god list, but Mitchell--not long into his transformation--was creating anything he desired. Charlie was granted powers as a child, aged to 17 but had limitations (ex. returning people he "destroyed").

Moreover, Charlie made Phasers vanish as he considered them a threat--Mitchell was not only Phaser rifle resistant, but seem amused that Kirk would even try to "hurt" him with the weapon. That places him above all others.

Fair enough. We see more of Charlie being creative with his power, but Mitchell is creating from nothing (a living replicator for his purposes) by the end of WNMHGB and is, as you say, impervious to close-in energy fire. Kirk's window of opportunity to best him was small and vanishing; in less than an a hour from when Kirk confronted him on the rocks, I'm sure Mitchell would not have been susceptible to crushing, ie, a close-in protection field would have kicked in for protection against kinetic attacks as well as energy attacks. But the main thing that Mitchell has going for him compared to any of these others, is that he was still changing [read: becoming fantastically more powerful] and at an accelerating pace. The sky and more was potentially the limit with Mitchell.
