Chakotay's Maquis Crew

By any chance did Voyager ever mention just how large the crew of Chakotay's Maquis ship was?

Not to my recollection. But there were something like three dozen Maquis roles in the show, including all the extras (22 of them had names). And that's probably also the largest number that could have been stacked aboard Chakotay's relatively small vessel.

On the other hand, if the Maquis amounted to anything less than thirty people out of a hundred and fifty, Janeway would probably just have locked them away instead of pressing them to service...

It is canon that they both lost members of their crew when the Caretaker dragged them into the Delta Quadrant, combined what was left of both crews were around 140 people.

Voyager's original crew compliment was 141 according to Stadi. That either did or did not include Tom Paris at launch.

The first time they ever mentioned a total number of people aboard the ship after that was The 37's, with 152. Not sure whether Janeway included The Doctor in that number.

At least 5 people died on Voyager in Caretaker, Cavit, Stadi, Unnamed Doctor, Nurse and Chief Engineer, bringing the crew number down to 136. Between Caretaker and 37's, Durst died. So after the two crews merged, the number would be 153.

Chakotay's crew was at least 17, maybe more depending on other Voyager Casualties from being taken to the Delta Quadrant.

17 people vs 136? Geez, a mutiny story wouldn't have made much sense with those odds unless they had outside support.

According to my research, Chakotay's crew were approximately 31 people total including 11 characters mentioned in the Voyager books.

At least 5 people died on Voyager in Caretaker

One should probably add to this the many high-rankers listed in "Imperfection", because it would make no sense for these people to survive the events of "Caretaker" and never be seen, while the low-ranking main heroes would take their places at the heads of the various departments. The Chief Engineer and the Chief Medical Officer might be part of the "Imperfection" list - but I believe the CMO has been given a name in Trek literature, and it isn't one of the Commanders or LtCmdrs on that list... FWIW.

It would be rather easy to accept that some 20 Starfleet personnel died in the pilot, while 30+ Maquis came aboard. Canonically, we have to accept 22 Maquis with names, plus the various extras, but that's not much over 30 yet.

^ I had forgotten about that list from "Imperfection" but considering that was a little bit of an in-joke with the names pulled straight from the characters of The West Wing. I dunno if that list is really very helpful.

It would help explain why a lowly Ensign apparently became head of Operations department, and a lowly Lieutenant (field-promoted ex-con, no less!) headed the Flight Control dept... The original Chief of Ops or Chief of Conn may have been one of those Lieutenant Commanders. Hell, for all we know, the ship also had a high-ranking Chief of Security while Tuvok was absent, and he or she was one of those "West Wing casualties".
