Seriously though I believe this scene is just meant to be a bit of fun where the female character seduces some sap to giving info and then doesn't follow through on anything. Kind of cliche maybe, and also a bit out of step with Crusher's character as just a doctor maybe? But the ear thing just makes it a bit more funny.
