Chabon Pitches Seven of Nine Spinoff

If they are going to do a A-Team they need to have RIos in charge. SInce he smokes cigars like Hannibal. Seven gets to be Facemen and like in the A-TEAM opening credits you got see a Borg Drone looking like she used to walk by her.

How about Worf as B.A.? He's developed a fear of flying and has to be knocked out every time they go somewhere.

The Neutral Zone is not in Federation Space, so Federation laws and the Prime Directive don't apply. Also, if the theory about Seven keeping control of the Borg Cube is true, then that means that the Fenris Rangers effectively become the government (or the police force, at least).

The Prime Directive by definition only applies outside of Federation space, not in it. Inside Federation space, there are no non-Federation civilizations to interfere with (with maybe a handful of rare exceptions, like in Insurrection).

it continues to amaze me how this era of trek has spawned countless "that would be a good spin off" conversations. i don't have enough time in my life, but i'd watch the shit out of a seven / fenris rangers spin off. or seven / XBs spin off. or a kestra and soji go to the academy spin off. or any other combination...

why would I want to see her soften up?
They made her out to be a bit cynical and fatalistic in PIC, which isn't surprising considering the lawlessness of the part of the galaxy she operates, and the death of Icheb.

I have no problem with that, but it does feel to me that they are intentionally setting a baseline for the character from which she would be able to develop in a potential spinoff. Seeing how she and Elnor have interacted so far, I can imagine her taking him under her wing and mentoring him.

When that happens in a story, the mentor usually learns some life lessons from the mentee.

You don't necessarily need a spin-off (it could be a sub-plot in Picard).

yeah, it fits her, I wouldn't want to change that. She's more intersting that way

She's at the age where she's seen it all and done it all.

Worf would be a good choice. Alter his gold sash to wear around his neck like jewelry and it works even better. As for the A-Team Van just get the real van and go Spaceballs and simply put a coupe of nacells on it.

I think a little edge is fine, but she is dangerously so (unnecessarily dangerous to herself).

Take a look at her response to the situation is Stardust City. Her solution to that was frankly a suicide revenge mission from which she was lucky to have survived.

She needs to learn to care about what happens to herself. Or, she needs to have someone who cares enough for her that she -- for the sake of the people who care about her -- would be less willing to unnecessarily put herself in a position like that.

I have no particular interest in either a Seven spin-off series OR the Section 31 spin-off series.

There’s a lot of real lessons from the end of the Berman-era about market saturation, dividing the efforts of the creative staff, and generally just trying to do too much at the same time, to the overall detriment of all the projects.

It does sound like Chabon wasn’t being particularly serious with this suggestion anyway but, even if he was (or maybe if he was just sounding out what responses it got), I still think they need to stop, pause, reflect and not over-stretch themselves.

There are several other projects in development and it sounds like a good possibility that the Captain Pike / Spock / Number One series set on pre-TOS 1701 will also move forward. That one I would definitely watch and it gives them at least one avenue for a 2020s take on classic episodic Trek.

In truth, Covid-19 is likely to close down most active productions for the foreseeable future. Shows in post-production can, presumably, be finished remotely if needed; an animated show the same; but anything requiring new live-action shooting (even pick-ups and re-shoots) seems unlikely to be happening for quite some time!
