CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phasers..

DumbDumb2007

Commander
The Enterprise,NCC-1701 should be overhauled further CGI-wise. Extra sets of Phaser Turrets,Cargo Doors,Lifeboat hatchplates,Sensor equipment cover plates,sets of Airlocks,Maneuvering Thrusters, illumination between the rings of the Main Antenna,Deflector Grids and additional Tractor Beam Mounts as well as Cowls added to the bottoms and tops of the Pylons supporting the warp engines should be added. Let the ship lean towards it's appearance in the first film.
An additional set of Phasers should be added to the upper part of the Engineering Hull just forward of the rear edge of the Dorsal hull. As well as a set of Phasers added to either above of below the Hangar deck Clamshell doors would make sense too. An Aft Torpedo Tube should be added to the trailing edge of the Engine Hull. Cargo doors added to the rear underside of the hulls would make sense. Airlocks added close to where they were in the first film should be added along with an extra set of them just above the weapons area of the lower saucer hull. A pair of emergency hatches-airlocks should be added alongside the left and right edges of the Hangar Deck. This would enable Medical and rescue teams to evacuate the ship's crew in case the Shuttle deck was being used as a triage area.
Transporter Emitters and covers over the sensor packages should be placed around the hull accordingly. That the Enterprise NX-01,and Galaxy Class ship had these details and the Enterprise of the Original Series and films didn't sticks out. The depthness of these changes should be done to about 3/4 of what we have seen on the Enterprise NX-01 and later ships. Let the Enterprise really shine so it really look like it can handle a 5 year Mission Boldly Going Where No Man has gone Before.

All those things ARE there, neatly hidden under their hatches and covers, in order to keep them away from damage. Everything is retracted under the self-contained outer shell, accessible from inside, so no technician is ever required to walk the outer shell in order to fix some stupid relay or something.

You know, it is the starship - streamlined, strong, well designed, functional starship - not some nextgen fanwank covered with clumsy plating, flashing LEDs and bunglesome protrusions. :lol:

oh...this should get interesting.

**Stag runs to make popcorn and put on comfy clothes in order to prepare to be entertained by the rest of the responses**

will not dignify original post with a response... :thumbsup:

Why not? I personally feel that these changes would be NOT an improvement, but they appear to be honest suggestions, honestly offered.

DumbDumb ain't no dumb dumb.

I've suspected this for a while now but now I'm sure; he's putting us on, folks.

I've always been sorry that the one turret the NCC-1701 has, the one right over the hanger deck, we never saw used. It would have been such a great POV shot to have a scene filmed in there.

In order to illustrate my point, I crafted a simple schematic. :D

Excellent schematic, exalted one. You've explained the Jefferies POV very well. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

This is not about "detailing". It was a conscious decision on Jefferies part, based on his concept of how the ship would function. Very much influenced by his aerospace background.

Instead of being an old-fashioned, 1960s design, the original Enterprise is well-informed and thought-out. OTOH, much of the modern Trek design work -- particularly by Eaves -- suffers from being style without much thought given to function. It's one thing to say form and function have become less interdependent because of advances in technology, but pure style? That's not what's going on. There are still phasers and nacelles and sensors. They are just slapped on without consideration to how they are maintained, defended, or used. Just put on for... looks.

In the end, that reduces Trek to the level of other SF design, like Lost in Space. Stick to that course and Trek will end up like Lost in Space.

Yup. I don't think it's a coincidence this whole line of posts, from this poster and others, have flooded these forums now.

Re: One useful addition

Put the "Ten Forward" windows in, as I hear Trek 11 will feature scenes on the Enterprise's "Ten Forward".

He said as much in numerous interviews. Space is a dangerous place... eminently more sensible to place equipment where it can be serviced from the inside.

Re: CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phase

I think all it needs is a subtle Aztec pattern (like STTMP) and just a little bit more detailing in places like the Warp nacelles and the impulse engines.

Well said.

Leave the big E alone.

Re: CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phase

The only real changes I want to see on the Enterprise in its original configuration are the FJ phaser banks on the top port/starboard saucer, and forward on the underside of the saucer. If there's an aft photorp launcher, so long as it's hidden, great. I'm just sick to death of the Enterprise having only 2 phasers. To defeat the ship, the Klingons would only have to attack from behind!!

Re: CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phase

The following items need to be added to the E to satisfy the new Generation of ignoramus fans:

1) rearview mirrors;
2) turn signals (oh, wait...nobody uses them anymore);
3) paddles (put those enlisted men/women to work to keep the ship afloat when its engines fail);
4) bright blue halogen lights (when overpowered by an alien ship, you can always blind them!);
5) loud, obnoxious mufflers on the ends of the nacelles (no reason...just to annoy people).

Curmudgeonly,
Doug

Re: CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phase

Don't forget the sub space woofer.... and the fluffy dice hanging from the top of the viewer!

Re: CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phase

There needs to be a disco ball, so Kirk can change the mood lighting on the bridge when he is going to seduce a sexy alien WOMAN.

Re: CGI up the Enterprise further, add airlocks, extra phase

Ah, heck, let's line the corridors with lots of shag carpet too.

Inserts off color line about the "babes of the week."...
