CGI Superman - CGI Terminator

I find that thought scary.

Would you have rather seen nuTrek with Pine and Quinto or with CG-Shatner and CG-Spock, with excellent voice actors? Casino Royale with Daniel Craig or with Sean Connery?
I'd prefer a CGI Roger Moore, but otherwise that would be awesome. :p

Hm... haven't even thought about that one. But that's a bit different, since that would be in order to make a movie about these persons.
Not necessarily. Heil Honey, I'm Home: The Motion Picture is just waiting for the technology to catch up with its ambitions.

The real question is, in 20 years time (give or take), when this becomes not only possible, but also relatively cheap, what will the actors (and their unions) think of all this? Also, when the voice synthesizers reach perfection, not even voiceovers will be completely necessary. Filmmakers will be able to "fabricate" dialogue on their computers.

Anyone seen that movie "S1mone" with Al Pacino? It wasn't very good, but I fear it might have been quite prophetic. Personally, the idea of a 100% artificial movie scares the shit out of me.

I liked S1m0ne, once I got over my disappointment that it wasn't about an emergent AI, and really just about a fakey actress. But what would happen? The acting chops would have to shift to behind-the-scenes technicians. In this regard, it wouldn't be much different than, for example, drawing a comic: "acting" is a required skill in rendering humans. (One a lot of artists don't actually have, but I still say it's basic skill an artist ought to have.)

I suppose the scary part you're thinking of would be the possibility of one person in control over everything, as opposed to an actor who inhabits the role. I wouldn't call that "scary," though, so much as potentially inauthentic.

The only really scary part is how it might affect character design, particularly in modeling and pornography, and the effects perfect CGI renderings will almost certainly have on real humans' body image.

Yeah, I agree - but like I said if you could make a sequel to any movie that would make huge $$$'s for the studio and you don't need to pay a Tom Cruise, Will Smith or Bruce Willis? That basically gives them complete control to do what they want, and I'm positive there's a million good voice actors out there who could do an impression of those stars perfectly.

It's a possibility. As much as I like those actors, though (even, maybe especially, Cruise), I don't think I'd lose sleep over the end of superstardom in Hollywood and its attendant $10 million-plus addition to any given blockbuster's budget.
