Centauri slugs?

Hey, somebody who's read the comics, please answer me this:

What the heck is all that water doing in the torture chamber???

Inquiring minds want to know.

I tried wrapping my wee brain around this question (i really couldnt think of a reason that made sense) so i ended up telling myself it was to help cool that really big drill.

My guess? They were from Rura Penthe or somehow got aboard and infested parts of the Narada before the prison escape.

Yep. The writers had said it was intended the slugs were used by the Klingons to torture prisoners, and the creatures would eat themselves back out of the host. Presumably the ugly scars on the back of Nero's skull were the result of a slug breaking free. With Pike, his slug invader crippled him before it was removed.

What the heck is all that water doing in the torture chamber???

I assumed it was ballast.

Could be i guess.

The Star Trek: Nero comic offers another explanation for the scars: [Spoilers for Nero #2 within] but those were pretty nasty-looking critters.

I'm thinking the water's either coolant or a medium for the the space-mining equivalent of drilling mud, but that's only a guess.

Where the heck did Nero get the Centauri slugs?

Nero was a huge Khan fanboy which is why he had the mind control insects on his ship.:p

Well, he did know about Captain Kirk...and surely that Trek II-IV saga was one of his most legendary adventures.

How much time did Nero have between the end of Romulus and going back in time?

And when he arrived in the 23rd century, how much time did he have to collect things?
