News CBSAA -> Paramount+

Why not keep the All Access part of the name or any other word so they don't sound like they're copying Disney+?

I'm just not seeing why they are throwing away five-plus years of branding? Paramount isn't exactly in good shape, attaching the name to your thriving streaming service seems a bit dumb.

Paramount is a bigger brand than CBS, and a lot of people probably still think a service called CBS All Access is just a bunch of CBS shows.

Paramount+ is such a bland name, though. Copying not only Disney but Apple (Apple TV+) too.

Thing is, if they are growing the way CBS is reporting they are growing, they are likely a more known name at this point and generally people know the service is more than just CBS shows.

If they are looking at genuine global expansion then the Paramount name is far more well known. Although Paramount+ seems so lazy.

Is it "thriving"? Regardless, when I think CBS outside of Star Trek, I think of two things: news, and generic broadcast television. I definitely associate Paramount with movies and actual "blockbuster" media entertainment.

...is it not? I mean, I only got the free month to watch Star Trek and didn't look at anything else it offered, but I am 100% under the impression it's just CBS shows. I mean, sure, CBS has *loads* of shows going back *decades*, but what else other than (formerly) broadcast TV and Star Trek do they have?

For the same reason Microsoft skipped the "Windows 9" name - and it became Windows 10 AFTER Apple had released their OS X for the Mac.

Disney+ has 6+ million subs, so some marketing genius belies that their streaming name needs a '+' to compete, so we get Paramount+

CBS is pretty much unknown outside of the US, if they want to expand globally they need a more well known name and generations of people know Paramount from going to the movies.

They're also adding a bunch of Paramount movies and Viacom cable TV shows that never really had anything to do with CBS, so I can see why rebranding makes sense.

Also, somewhat amusingly, they've been using Paramount+ in international markets for several years, before even Apple and Disney, so even though they were earlier, everyone thinks they're copying.

I really like the name Paramount+.

So now I have Apple TV+ for See, For All Mankind and Foundation.

Disney+ for The Right Stuff.

And soon Paramount+ for Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and the Section 31 show; and The Twillight Zone and The Man Who Fell To Earth.

I wish that AT&T would change HBO Max to HBO+ because that sounds so much better to me. Everybody should be "+", "+" is good. :cool:

This proves time and time again that Hollywood loves being second and never first. They love sure things and I want to be a part of little risk.
