CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I wonder if the Orville production operations use equipment from Axanar's studio sponsor. Hey guys, whatcha' doin' encouraging this guy who is defaming our staff and disrupting our fan relations? We could publicly take our business elsewhere...

Back in the '70's, before fan-based films, before Paramount Trek films, fans were producing all kinds of written material, artistic material, visual material, audio material and Paramount cracked down on NONE of it, even tho a large percentage of the material was Kirk/Spock gay porn. Paramount cracked down on fan-based materials only when something became financially successful, such as my 'Klingon Covert Operations Manual' around 1990. I also produced the first Klingon text-font in 1984 and if I had charged for it, I've no doubt Paramount would have stopped that as well, since over 350,000 copies have been downloaded last I checked (10 years ago). It was ONLY with the Axanar film production that Paramount began cracking down on films, simply because they were using real actors, real directors, producers, construction crew, film crew, etc..... The TRUE fan-based Trek films have been left completely alone other than via Paramount's 'rules' dictate, which has devastated any ability by anyone to produce a film. A 15-minute short is all they are allowed and no actors or anyone having anything to do with the film industry is allowed to participate. You can't make a true film of 15 minutes other than what they call short-shorts that you might see at Canne or other film festivals that are used to draw interest to the person, people or businesses that produced them. Paramount has thus created a monopoly, akin to the old Bell Telephone company and their rules should be voided. I will never go see a Paramount Trek film again. The last one was utter trash.

Inviting an inner circle donor to dumpster dive the Axanar merch and sell it for big bucks is just begging CBS/P to file their Axanar records with the IRS for reference, and c/d the new version of a Donor Store. Alec has always seemed to believe that nothing is allowed to happen unless he says its right. I don't think the world works exactly that way.

Do you mean OWC because LFIM has nothing to do with Orville? I doubt OWC can be happy about the current situation.

OWC's CEO is under the Peters spell for some reason........when it starts hurting his business or costing him money, maybe he will figure things out. Hell if he is happy to foot the bill for the Axanar Warehouse/Playroom in GA maybe he'll keep writing checks.
 
Correct me for this, as I have not followed all recent developments, but what exactly do Axanar supporters hope to see happen in the end?

The settlement of the lawsuit prohibits Alec from doing anything close to his original intent, even if he had the resources, which he doesn't.

So what exactly is to be gained in being an Axanerd?

Is it just sort of a cult that has bought into Alec's martyr-complex?

If so, they should stop thinking of themselves as Axanar fans because it has nothing to do with Axanar anymore.

They are still expecting 2 15-minute segments done in the style of prelude. They still want this because they consider Axanar to be "real trek" unlike Kelvin/Discovery and then AP has gradious plans after that to create lots more fan movies some star trek and some using original IP and in their mind all of it is going to be amazing and so much better then anything CBS/P is putting out.

You mean more faux documentary style? That seems rather anti-climactic.

And remember the guidelines saying nobody who has worked on Trek can participate, etc... I suppose he's planning to follow those rules to the letter? No Gary Graham, no JG Hertzler, etc...? What about Tobias?

In the settlement he got permission so that anybody who worked on prelude can work on axanar-lite.

Shit, the earth would explode with all the bluster and ego colliding in that room. It would make a M/AM reaction look like a roman candle, by comparison.
 
Speaking of who is and is not an attorney, I wonder if Ms. Ranahan is still with her firm, after dragging them into the fiasco that was a pro-bono defense of an indefensible case.
