AP DID separate himself from most other fans films . . . he didn't produce shit!! :)
:D

(Prelude was an advert to get people to give him more money and the Vulcan scene was to keep people off of his back for not producing the movie; and to raise more money) Speaking of "Prelude"; I'm I the only one NOT impressed with this green-screen / CGI production?

Comic looks like they drew a TOS D-7 to be a D-6

Not surprised they took so long to make that comic. First they had to hold a fundraiser to buy a space to draw it, they they needed volunteers to contribute to the creation of the new bridge set drawing, which then needed folded up and shipped to the new location in Georgia by a rental fleet, then new volunteers had to be found to unfold it...

That didn't bother me at all. But then again, I'm used to the Star Fleet Battles version in which there is a very minor different externally between the D6 and D7. Did Axanar and/or official Trek make the D6 look like something else??

HERE's the Axanar D-6. They figured it was original enough to sell model kits of it. Didn't go so well.

Finally read the 'comic', and sorry, but with ALL THREE Star Fleet Captains commanding Ares Class starships; is the inference really that ONLY GARTH knew how to fight with them effectively? <--- Talk about a 'Mary Sue' type character. ;)

You obviously don't recognize high quality professional storytelling when you see it. :techman:

Talk about a 'Mary Sue' type character.

I finally read it. Mary Sue city, USA (or elsewhere). Egad, everything is measured by how Garth would like something, what he would do, or what would help him out.

Well, isn't that to be expected to a certain degree, given the known qualities of the pre-existing character?

KIRK: No. No, think. Think back to what you were before the accident that sent you to Antos IV. Try.
GARTH: I can't remember. It's almost as if I had died and was reborn.
KIRK: No, I, I can remember. You were the finest student at the Academy, the finest Starship Captain. You were the prototype, the model for the rest of us.

Sadly, I didn't really see that quality in the proposed script, nothing actually brilliant, for example, but if he was something resembling the finest Starship captain, would that be cause for complaint? If anything, if he were sadly lacking, wouldn't that be greater cause for complaint?

And what's with the "Mary Sue" rather than the "Marty Stu" title? Are you suggesting the character was somehow less than manly and more effeminate in some way?

If you're going to make your main character brilliant at something, you need to give them an equally big flaw, otherwise there's nothing likable or interesting about them.

I wouldn't have made the Ares class a warship (and hence not call it that). The hero ship becomes more remarkable if it's doing feats it's not meant to do.
Exactly. The story of the most brilliant tactician in command of the most powerful warship, who wins the war is far less interesting than the story of the ordinary captain in command of the underpowered ship who manages to achieve the same thing.

I think it helps if a character's greatest strength and their greatest flaw are two sides of the same coin. If they're relentless, make them uncompromising. If they use guile to triumph over their enemies, perhaps they should be manipulative and deceitful with their crew as well. That sort of thing.
