CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

The interesting thing is:
Many here (myself included) agreed with Mr. Gossett in that Alec Peters 'endgame' for all this was keeping the studio. What I never understood about that it WHERE Alec thought the money to maintain and run the studio was going to come from. Hell, remember that Jonathan Lane tried a separate Indegogo campaign (supposedly without **COUGH <Bullshit>** Mr. Peters knowledge) to just help Alec Peters 'pay the rent' - and if I recall Dennis Bailey was the only person who pledged a total of $5 just so he could comment and tell Jonathan and Alec his view; and in the end said Campaign was taken down within 24 hours with no real pledges and a bunch of "where'd the original money go?" comments.

Does Alec think he's such an amazing Com man that he'll somehow find someone to continue to foot the bill - and he'll somehow get more porn producers to pay him to rent his 'studio'? What is Alec smoking - because I want some. ;)
Their plan to pay future rent involved:

1. Subletting the studio to other film makers.
2. Using the studio for a film school, staring Richard Hatch (and Alec Peters).
3. To explore the possibility of making more independent Star Trek films.
4. To make other independent, non-Star Trek films, paid for through crowd funding. Star Trek Axanar was meant to serve as an advertisement of what they can achieve to potential backers.
In the end, I really think the 'Axanar' (2X15 minute) feature (if it actually gets done) will end up being:

- The unused footage from the "Axanar Heroes" vignette (that was filmed on the ST: New Voyages set years ago) with Alec doing VO as Garth thinking and reflecting back on the 'Battle'.

- As much of the Tobias Ricther VFX footage (I remember it being said the majority of it had been generated and delivered.)

- Any raw unused footage and VO filmed/recorded from the original "Prelude to Axanar" shoot (We've seen some already in the follow up trailers.)

- A ham-handed tie in that somehow uses the 'Vulcan Scene" as hey, can't let something filmed with Gary Graham as Soval in full costume and makeup go to waste, no matter how much it would work for a 'flashback sequence".

It'll be interesting to see if the above turns out to be the case. ;):barf:
Is there anything New Voyages can do to prevent Axanar from using the 'Heroes' footage? I would hate for Alec Peters to cause James Crawley and his team any further difficulties, especially as they now have an officially licensed set tour. Can any on the New Voyages actors decline to be involved therefore preventing the use of the footage? Can Peters use the footage without their consent?

^ Is that what is referred to in the acting industry as 'smell the fart acting'?

The reason I ask is that I know that Alec Peters has posted clips on the Axanar YouTube channel in the past of 'Origins: The Protracted Man' and 'Heroes' which have all been taken down due to copyright claims from Retro Film Studios.

I have to admit that I would laugh if, having used the heroes footage, Axanar posted their film on YouTube only for it to immediately be taken offline due to a copyright claim from Retro Film Studios. Could you imagine the outrage from all the Axanerds (Axanarians) out there?

Recall that there are three different things that were shot on the New Voyages sets, only two of which "belong" to New Voyages:
  1. As part of the still-unreleased Star Trek: New Voyages episode, “Origins: The Protracted Man,” Peters first played Captain Garth peeking in on Cadet James Kirk taking his Kobayashi Maru test. Shot in June 2010.
  2. Peters portrayed Garth again in June 2012 in the Star Trek: New Voyages, vignette, “Going Boldly.”
  3. Director Robert Meyer Burnett and Peters traveled again to the upstate New York New Voyages set to shoot Axanar's own short, Heroes. That vignette tells the story of Garth’s rehabilitation following the events of the Original Series episode Whom Gods Destroy 23 years after the events to have been portrayed in Axanar.

Yes, I remember watching it and feeling more than a little uncomfortable with they way Garth (Alec Peters) was staring at the young Cadet Kirk. It was more then a little creepy.

Origins sounded interesting and hopefully they can cobble something together - Heroes I'd like to see if only to get a last bit of New Voyages.

It's sad and baffling how whole episodes/shorts can be filmed but not released

On projects like that (which require a fair amount of VFX, etc.) Post production can be a bitch. Yes, it takes a few weeks to film the live action and then it can take 6 months to a years to edit it all together - create and edit in effects, and the sound effects, etc. And the person (or group) doing that is doing it in their time off, not really getting paid - and while some of it can be fun/interesting, every production usually has a segment that REAL drudge work or a real bitch to get done to the point it's presentable.

Honestly to me, it's amazing so many fans stick with it to get something out for public viewing. The other thing you need when you do stuff like this is a thick skin as for everyone that loves/likes it, 10 times more will go "what garbage..." etc.; so you have to be able to sift through and accept the valid criticisms (positive and negative) and be able to ignore the rest that you know is just there to try and provoke a response/troll.

Aw, thanks @Mr. Nova ! Your profile pic is from one of my guilty pleasure faves. :)

Mine, Too! Third season TOS gets a lot of flak, but there are some gems if folks take the time. "Requiem for Methuselah" has always been one of my favorites. Although I watched most of Star Trek in first run on our B&W TV, it was several years before I was able to see all of them. I got them alternatively through James Blish's adaptations, and that's where my "handle" came from. "Mr. Nova" was mentioned as one of Flint's previous names.

Most people will forget about it five minutes after they read the article.

I'm sure Winston & Strawn will be changing their phone number and email addresses, five minutes after the settlement is signed off on.

Their new name will be "Winsome and Scrawny". Apologies to those offended or otherwise traumatized.

Thanks for the kind words folks. Carlos and I will be chatting next week hopefully as well. Sorry I've been AFK for a while, my Dad passed away at the end of July and I've been focusing inwards on family since, finally peering back as TZ this week with the refreshed Spotlight series.

A little off topic, any thoughts on the new set and graphics? (During an interview with Trek Fan Productions, I worked out that I've produced 52 podcasts in three years... what's Alec done?)

Very sorry to hear about your dad; there are tonnes of Trek podcasts out there but this video series definitely is the most professional- fantastic guests and very informative.

The set and graphics make it look like a proper news programme. I love it

Very professional looking and well edited. The backgrounds images and videos behind some of those being interviewed are a nice touch. Your presentation and interviewing skills are also improving. You seem really comfortable and confident in front of the camera.

I look forward to your next video.

Just to keep this on topic I am going to point out for no particular reason that Alec Peters sucks.

PUBLIC APPEAL FOR PRIVATE DONATIONS Is Axanar’s website publicly building a private email list as an end run around fundraising prohibited by the terms of its lawsuit settlement? Also, Alec Peters named a new financial reviewer who may face the same conflict of interest that prompted another reviewer to resign, and more details about the future of Axanar Lite. Read more »
