CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I really think AP will fuck something up.

Makes one wonder if W&S is obligated to continue pro bono if the necessary changes are not made or some new fresh scheme is hatched within the 60 day window. Axanar has indicated their commitment to accepting the terms, after all.

They're obligated until the Settlement order is signed and entered into the court record (and I'm not talking the settlement details as they won't be public beyond what both parties have stated - just the fact that both sides have agreed to a settlement, the Judge has accepted it, and as a result, the case is dismissed.)
^^^
After all that, W&S' (and Erin Ranahan's) pro bono responsibility ends.

Have they? I've seen postings today where they seem to be looking for loopholes........Which just makes me want to do a double facepalm........

The principals are looking for loopholes? The holy fanatics? The innocent donors?

I was thinking Axanar indicated their cooperation to their attorneys, who must have communicated this to the studios, else the settlement wouldn't have been made public.

So if meeting the terms of the settlement offer is screwed up by Axanar, Axanar still has W&S support for a trial?

Technically, yes - BUT that said, depending on the reason (if the settlement is abrogated due to something said/done by an Axanar principal defendant); W&S/Erin Rnahan could make a motion to withdraw from the case as counsel for the defense; and if granted, Axanar would need to find new legal representation.

I await the hint-dropping and winking - hey, I know what's in the settlement and you don't, neener cubed, that sort of thing. And then something will leak and we'll find out the settlement involved chainsawing a tree on some backwater planet while wearing war paint and ritually chanting.
Enterprise: A Night In Sickbay

<fist pump> Yes!

So the FB Axanar/CBS group is visible again to nonmembers, and guess what, in a comment from Terry:

"...Alec fears the truth, whatever that might be, becoming public knowledge so those of us with evidence must act and act publicly. Carlos and others had better start eating their carrots, because there's a lot that still needs to be seen and organized by third-parties."

I have donated money to six "crowdfunded" film projects over the past ten years. As of now, only one of them has actually been completed. One has begun a second round of fundraising, one has been "almost done" for about five years now, another actually offered to return donations because they underestimated the amount of time and effort they were going to have to put in...

Yeah, never again.

I feel for the Axanar donors, but there is a time to walk away from the table, and it is now.

Said it before, and I'll say it again. The crowdfunding market needs to be regulated and needs to carry with it the sort of consumer protections that one might expect from using, say, a credit card.

Considerable discussion here over time about govt agencies that should use Axanar as an investigative example to trigger this. I believe some communications have been sent to get their attention. I don't think anyone disagrees with you on it.

I believe you're in good company. Making a film isn't as easy as it looks, making a good film requires at least a few failed attempts. As much as one may wish to be at the start of something, the odds are fairly slim.

Interview with Eriq Gardner from The Hollywood Reporter who has been covering the Axanar case.

Don't feel bad. I supported Star Trek Equinox on crowdfunding. :guffaw:
However I would add there have been many Star Trek fan film productions that have delivered what they promised.
