CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

This election was totally rigged. Marc Cushman had the presidency in his grasp and it was stolen from him!

This is my last post. I am simply too depressed to continue writing and speaking publicly. Tonight make me realize how futile it all is. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how nice you are to people. Bullies always win in the end. Such is the nature of human evolution. And I'm through trying to fight reality. So I plan to live out what remains of my life in silence, offline and away from the anger and taunts of others. Goodbye, and good luck to you all.
I will probably continue posting in the thread, (and actually I do hope you change your mind at some point) but just let me say I COMPLETELY understand how you feel. For the first time in my life I am truly embarrassed to call myself an American/U.S. Citizen, and I was born and have lived here all my life. (And no I wasn't actually surprised by the result as I had a feeling for about the last month that this was how our Election would turn out - although I truly hoped I was wrong.)

[And if the Mods feel this post is out of place, by all means delete it - but again, I completely understand how he feels]

Whilst it isn't in anyway on the same level, when the Brexit vote went the way I didn't want it to earlier this year, and racists and xenophobes appeared to win the day, I found myself thinking of Mr Worf and an episode of DS9 the name of which escapes me. Essentially, much like Mr Worf on the Defiant, we're faced with a choice of surrendering or attempting to escape. His solution in the face of apparently insurmountable odds should be our solution..

"We fight".
Like you did I also find myself thinking of ST while regarding possible outcomes of this litigation and my fear of its impact on this franchise I love.... as well this new world I find myself in today which brings me much apprehension for the future. I have settled on the Koyabashi Maru at this time, with that great example modeled by Acting Capt. George Kirk in the opening scenes of Star Trek.
"Fear in the face of certain death. To accept that fear and maintain one's self and one's crew." --Koyabashi Maru
---combined with---
"At some point, everything is going to go south on you. And you're going to say this is it. This is how I end....... And you get to work. That's all it is. You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem... then you solve the next one. And then the next one." --The Martian

Plus an extra heavy dose of this today... set on a continuous replay loop:

And just before I'm hoping to get some sleep tonight (last night's sleep was a total bust) I guess I'll try to remind myself of Dr. Seuss wisdom on matters like these:
"you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, down the road between hither and yon, that can scare you so much you won't want to go on. But on you will go though the weather be foul. On you will go though your enemies prowl. On you will go though the hakken-krask howl. Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak. You'll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You'll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act

So I'll try to "continue to do what I can within my circle of influence" and "look [wherever I am regarding the litigation & new world in which I've awakened] to what can I do to understand the people on the other side."

Oh yeah, and probably not watch the news again until I'm not so off-balance. Maybe March? June? Yup. :)

Off Topic, I just saw this on the news wire and thought someone might find it amusing to see how minor a player LFIM is.
Movie Producer Charged With Defrauding Hedge Fund Investors

Washington D.C.--(Newsfile Corp. - November 9, 2016) - The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged a former movie producer and self-proclaimed private equity executive with defrauding investors in hedge funds and using the money he stole to support his extravagant lifestyle.
According to the SEC's complaint, David R. Bergstein of Hidden Hills, California, stole millions from investors in 2011 and 2012 and used the money for purchases with a firearms dealer, an antique watch and jewelry retailer, and a bonsai tree nursery. The SEC's complaint alleges that the scheme relied on a series of intricate transactions by Weston Capital Asset Management, then a registered investment adviser, with two of its unregistered hedge funds, Weston Capital Partners Master Fund II Ltd. and the Wimbledon Fund SPC Class TT Segregated Portfolio.
In one transaction, the SEC alleges that Bergstein misappropriated at least $2.3 million of money that was purportedly meant for investments in medical-billing businesses and helped Weston Capital Asset Management conceal the true nature of the transaction from Weston investors. In a second allegedly fraudulent transaction, Bergstein stole more than $3.5 million of funds also purportedly meant, in part, for investments in medical-billing businesses.
"The use of elaborate corporate transactions to mask old-fashioned theft of investor monies will not prevent the SEC from enforcing the federal securities laws and protecting investors," said Andrew M. Calamari, Director of the SEC's New York Regional Office. "Violators will be held to account no matter the artifice used to perpetrate their frauds."

I will continue to fight, both in the politics I believe in, and against Alec Peters. But for now, I need to step away from social media. I need time and space to process everything and listening to others diatribes is not the way to do it. This morning, Facebook was beyond painful. You had liberals who were just heartbroken, some beyond words. You had conservatives, who were gloating, to the point where I just could not take it. And you had some in the middle who were just being complete assholes and finding humor in others' misfortune. At the end of the day, I respect and appreciate that the Republicans are happy they've regained the government and I do accept that's a reality as much as I may not like it. As many others, I am still in shock and I'm grieving. But I'm giving myself 24 hours to deal with that (and likely a lot longer than that off of social media. But I'll be back there and I'm not leaving TrekBBS anytime soon.)

I didn't read Alec's page before I left, but I fear that he, as he so typically does, switched sides, and suddenly became a gloating conservative... or even more of an asshole than he already is.

In any case, I stand by my statement. I still have a little hope left for humanity and hope that Alec loses this battle swiftly at some level.

I have a pretty good mix of Republican and Democrats in my life, on Facebook and a find a nice balance within the production studio. Personally I consider myself a conservative (send hate mail to WWW. ihateyourguts.net) and haven't been an active Republican since 1999.
I believe it requires both a Hammer and a Saw to build a house and the same holds true to create a solid production. I find nothing worse then an episode or series which drives hard with a singular message being pounded over and over again without a well represented opposing viewpoint.
At some point you have to boil it down to respect and maintain respect for people you consider worthy to be called your friend.

I know some great conservatives and I know some terrible liberals. I actually am typically more a moderate. I've never voted straight down the line. I do admit my more liberal side is showing this election. :p. This election just brought out the worst of many of us. Myself included in that.

Agreed. I spent quite a bit of last night working on blog posts (yes I am still doing that).

It's still a ton of documents to go through. I am currently hip-deep in the 'annual report'.
The annual report! Hahaha. I feel your pain. You're where I was a few months ago. I still have my paper copy of it, all marked up with red. Can't wait to read your version of it.

Tomorrow, attorneys for Axanar and CBS/Paramount try one more time with federal magistrate to find common ground for a settlement in their copyright lawsuit.

Each meeting is documented in civil minutes issued by the court. They don't give much more information than that the meeting occurred but they do announce whether any followup meetings will occur. Stay tuned...

It's the 2015 report with the "5" crossed out and a "6" added.

I cannot imagine a new financial statement being allowed by the attorneys unless it is an attempt to take the sting out of damaging facts by leaking them partially, expending donor outrage and newsworthiness on only a fraction of the issues, and then having the rest come out after outrage and newsworthiness is spent.

The first question donors should ask Alec of any new statement is "does this statement completely reveal all line items of broken out expenditures identically as was disclosed to the studios in the unredacted financials?" The second should be "if the accountant or any other person removed or consolidated any line items or changed the amounts to create a redacted report for this document, what were the data items before and after the changes, and what justified the changes?".

I know exactly how you feel. My sympathies to you, and to us all.

The annual report has, let's just say, some interesting categories in it.

#spoileralert Basic math issue (although in all fairness I think it's just a transcription error).

Plus - long words! Official-looking, er, stuff! Excuses for this and that!

Featuring - things that the production could have done themselves rather than paid someone else to do! And, of course, the full-time salaries for what were never intended to be full-time jobs (always an old favorite).

Special guest stars include the California Department of Labor and, of course, an appearance by Charo.
