CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I may have produced no episodes at all but I would at least have given all my donors what I'd promised them (non-production notwithstanding).

I left this comment on that video:

This is a very one-sided report, all from Axanar's side. Everyone interviewed is tied to the production, including Jonathan Lane. I admire that you put in CBS and Paramount's perspective from the Engage podcast. But what about those fans who oppose Axanar? Why not reach out to them? What about those fan productions who feel Axanar screwed them?

As Wil Wheaton said, these people are not on the side of fans or on the side of STAR TREK.

Honestly, put an astronaut in that chair. Then I will be interested in hearing it. I can only laugh at the unending persecution protests and playacting starship commander visions of someone who couldn't determine the polarity in the flip switches of his space playpen, much less understand how to actually lead anything. Its a hobby activity, no more.

Very well put - overall that video is a bunch of self serving crap; and a lot of the comments are of course by people in support of Axanar. I found this one particularly idiotic:

Intellectual property = thought control. Centralizes creativity and converts it to monopoly-imposed profiteering. It ensures most of our 'art' isn't for the sake of art. Unbridled cultures that ignore US copyright and patent law already outdo the west.

With people like this, it's no wonder Alec Peters is probably still seeing donations.:wtf::brickwall::barf:

Well, the two other options are to show the ship center-frame with "stars" zipping by, or you have a long-range view with tiny "ships" zooming around like the dog-fight scenes in Top Gun.

I didn't mind the "slow dance" of the ships. But the firing range to awfully close. They look like they're just a couple hundred meters apart, but a phaser can hit a selected building at 25,000 km from orbit. Why get so close, and why do they miss?
That's only the case if you insist on showing multiple ships in the same shot simultaneously as opposed to using different shots cut together in a way which conveys incredible speed and distance.

There are plenty of people who believe property as a concept is in itself meaningless - it doesn't surprise me at all that a (probably larger) set of people can be brought to believe that intellectual property, even more intangible, is a nonsense. They don't stop to think about the destruction of creativity that would come about from the stoppage of investment in IP resulting from uncertain ownership. Creativity costs a lot of money, and nobody will invest that money if the result can be copied and used by just anybody.

That video is annoying. It just drives me crazy that the Axanar people are singlehandedly becoming the voice of all fan films in the media. If they were going to give that role to somebody I would much rather it be someone like Vic Mignona, Tom, James Cawley or even Tommy Kraft.

Yep. And that isn't an accident, either.
