So, an exchange between Alec and a fan film producer which has been posted on Facebook:

Again, another example of how much mainstream exposure this story is getting. I wish people would let go of the idea that it somehow isn't newsworthy and isn't trending outside of hardcore Trek fans.

I won't consider this a mainstream story until someone in the mainstream media actually get it right instead of playing sockpuppet for AP.

I can tell you that the biggest productions, STNV, STC & STR are not on board with Alec. He may of had a couple smaller ones join him, but who knows. Alec wants to be the savior of fan films now. Fuck that, he damaged things more than he has ever helped anything. If CBS wants to put out guidelines they will make their own decisions of what rules will be in there. They dam well are not going to take any input from Alec.

I can assure you that most fan film production teams, including us "little guys," are not on board with these guidelines either. Potemkin Pictures has been very straightforward in our policies. We have expressed them plainly and succinctly elsewhere. But be assured, we do not stand with Axanar nor Alec Peters. We stand with the fans.

Thank YOU! for this post it goes to clearing up what has become a s**t pit of Alec opening his trap when he shouldn't be trying to speak for others..

I looked at the Phoenix Twitter feed and I think this may just be a case of someone not being able to write with any clarity:

@CBSTVStudios @ParamountPics : Bottom line...fan production "Guidelines" rejected. Official response will be released on Tuesday

I think what they may be saying there is that that they - not the studios - reject the proposed guidelines and will issue a more detailed statement after the holiday.

A look at their Facebook page supports this.

Yes this is what im thinking to.

Hey, Randy, good to see you!

Anyway, on to what I was going to say. A lot of people have turned Alec Peters into a mustache-twirling villain, or something very near. I've never personally met the guy, but I'd developed a dislike for him after seeing how he spoke to people on various boards. I've also read how a lot of people in person found him perfectly pleasant. Is it possible that all of this just got away from him and became something he couldn't keep a lid on?

Being called a moron was my personal fave insult from him.

Bhodi Li, I generally maintain amicable relations with all the fan film production teams. Alec contacted me Tuesday about putting together some guidelines, and I expressed to him the exact same guidelines I linked to upthread. He thanked me, and that's the last I heard about this until I got home today. I don't think my three guidelines would be to anyone's liking. :)

Lastly, before returning to lurker mode, I wish that this matter would simply be resolved quickly, quietly and without further quibbling. I also wish for world peace and fluffy bunnies. It's not likely I'm going to be granted any wishes either. :)

If the Axanar principal had any common sense this lawsuit would have ended in December with a phone call and a "Sorry to trouble you. It won't happen again."

That's how I read it.

It's hard for most people to make a clear statement off the cuff in 140 characters. Hell, I have a hard time doing it with unlimited characters. Thank goodness for the Edit feature. ;)

Eh. All they had to do was own their choice. For example, "@CBSTVStudios @ParamountPics: We reject Axanar's guidelines. Our full response will come Tuesday."

I love my Exec.... In a fan film sort of way....

People are changing their profile pics or avatars to this....

Both people and a few productions.

Just because something in the news doesn't make it newsworthy or important. The Metro's one of the most read outlets here in the UK. 90% of it's content is fluff like this no one remembers by the end of the day. Or the end of their train journey in most cases.

As for the guidelines...
.....I'm not sure how else this was supposed to go.

At this stage no one in their right mind could think Alec Peters could be trusted to speak on his own behalf so I'm not entirely sure why he'd think anyone would be swayed to let him act as the face of fan films.

His proposal (some elements of which have merit to be fair) does read like a list of mistakes, almost an admission of where it all went wrong. Which.... would be fair. If he hadn't positioned himself as an expert on crowdfunding, or used all these things to boast about why he's better than the rest (or 7/11 employees) and was in a legal battle drawn to by these items he's said should be banned.

I shouldn't read this thread first thing in the morning....

It really irks me how he's trying to play the King of the Fan Films now. I wouldn't have anything to do with him if I was associated with one of them. How many did he throw under the bus?

The ego is just rather astonishing. First he gets the money, now he seems to be seeking Star Trek legitimacy (or allies or both).

I think this is the case. Despite the lawsuit and his customer service issues :D its pretty impressive what he built out of Axanar. He moves quick and gets stuff done, but he also has chip on his shoulder and a huge ego. He reacts before he thinks, and that's why he's raised millions of dollars, but its also why people turn on him and he's gotten sued. Even when people attack him, he can usually respond with a articulate response with valid explanations, but in the same response he will also offer a rude or condescending comment. He just can't help himself sometimes, which is a shame, and I hope he will realise that at some point.
