CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I would wait to see the terms of the settlement to determine how lightly or not they are getting out.

Who knows, maybe David Gerrold will get his wish and CBS will adopt the Star Wars rules for fanfilms. You know, under five minutes, etc. That will sort of fuck Axanar. As well as make him a pariah because he fucked over the other fanfilms.
I see settling as them get out off lighter, not lightly, it's going to be less punitive than that would have happened had it went to trial.

Are you sure that ranaxA doesn't get to do their thing, this one last time while everyone else has to toe the line?

I don't see CBS penalizing those who tried to stay within the rules (NV/STC), so if there's a time-limit, it's probably going to be more like 45m. What I bet is completely gone is crowdfunding, I could also see a restriction that fan films have to be hosted on their own server, to avoid any possible monetization coming from YouTube, etc.

Not to go off on a linguistic tangent, but... is there some regional version of English where people conjugate the verb "to go" by saying I go, I went, I have went, instead of the generally accepted I go, I went, I have gone? Because I've been seeing the "have went" version an awful lot lately from several people, and I don't remember ever seeing it before maybe last year.

I wouldn't imagine that we will, as such. We're more likely to see very general PR releases from Axanar concerning the progress of things...as they progress.

Whatever talks occur between CBS and Axanar will occur between lawyers and possibly still in court.

There are a couple of upcoming legal dates that will either take place or be cancelled: the Defendant's Answer is due next Tuesday, and a week or so after that is the cutoff for adding additional named defendants to the suit. So whether those things happen or not would probably be the best guide to how quickly or well any settlement talks are proceeding.

Or...the Plantiffs could announce this afternoon that the lawsuit is over. Anything is possible. ;)

Isn't the accepted narrative here that Axanar folks are ultimately inconsequential...

Two things can be true at the same time: there aren't enough Axanar fans to do any real damage to the box office of the new film -and- Abrams can be concerned about the negativity from being perceived as going after fans productions.

Based on the Youtube and Facebook views of the new trailer, I don't think Paramount has anything to worry about from the fans of Axanar boycotting the feature films. But Abrams might be, in a way every director is concerned about bad press. Abrams might also just really believe he wants Peace in the Federation of Fans. Abrams might also want to dick over CBS. Any of that or none of that can be true.

Time will tell. Or not. :-)

RMB is singing Star Trek Beyond's praises on Twitter right now. One wonders if he'd be performing such fervent virtual fellatio if JJ had not made his now infamous announcement.

He obviously hasn't finished that bottle of Jameson in his office then.

If worse comes to worse I can always rewatch Space Janitors, intellectually it only knocks 2 points off of your IQ each season but at least its mind numblng.

Sorry. I am incapable of handling multiple truths at the same time.
This being the Internet, I can always find a place were my handicap is less painful to deal with.

I put a question in the Chat thread on Trekmovie. Let's see if I can get an answer. I've wondered myself where Anthony had gone, as I thought Trekmovie was better when he was running things.
Dennis, I got a response regarding Anthony. here is my original post, plus the response:

I haven’t posted to Trekmovie in quite a long while, but some people on another site are asking a question that hopefully someone here can answer:

Does anyone know what happened to Anthony? Did he bow out of the site? Did he sell it? Was he simply too busy to keep running it himself?

This is something I’ve wondered about for quite a while and am curious as to an answer, if anyone has one. Thanks.

No one has really offered up an explanation. AP seems to poke his head in every couple of years, announce he’s back, then transports out. The staff has been pretty much running the show for quite a while now…

... and see a doctor immediately if reading the post takes more than four hours. ;)

Good journalism always begins with editors. Great journalism always begins with good editors. The problem as I see it is Internet "news" sites are sorely in need of editors.
"...if it last longer than four hours, call your friends and brag about it."

I imagine we would see something on PACER first and there is nothing so far. Okay, I need to get outside and check out that big orange-y yellow ball in the sky. It frightens me a little.

Mars??
