CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

That's a nice dream but from a legal standpoint it's been mentioned several times up-thread that's not a very good idea because it encourages people like AP to not only infringe on copyrights, they get rewarded for it. Pandora's box.
Not if they win Millions of dollars in damages as well as taking the script (and the sets and even the studio). Imagine not only having your brain child stripped away from you, knowing someone else will create it with edits as they see fit, but also that you're too broke to be able to afford to go see the finished product at a Wednesday afternoon half-price matinee at the local dollar theater.

But we wouldn't wish that fate off on anybody.

Presumably CBS/P is going to win so why would CBS/P use AP's Axanar material when a new movie and series is being released soon? For all the hype and flash in the pan AP stridently bellowed is the bestest ST ever, it's a blatant mash-up taking CBS/P's IP from ST:OS, ST:TNG, Enterprise and nuTrek elements with an awful script. The real punishment would be watching it.

I'd like to thank those that provided constructive feedback to our original article. The author dug a little deeper and did a rewrite as a result. In addition, the lack of response from Axanar Productions left us a bit unsettled. They stopped talking once we engaged into deeper inquiry.

Anyways, the article just went live:

Live long and prosper!
I applaud you for being open-minded.
From the article:
"This is where Axanar may have crossed the line. While calling itself a non-profit, Axanar Productions built a studio while paying actors a salary. If there was any question it had crossed the line from fanfiction to potentially taking advantage of donations to build an enterprise of its own, it's when Axanar allegedly began renting out its studio - for profit. Axanar had branded its dedicated soundstage as Ares Studios. But then it started renting out the studio under a different name, Valkrie Studios. This flies in the face of not just the legal definition of fanfiction, but more importantly its very spirit."

Well-said! Bravo! :bolian:

You can't say it's "an awful script" because nobody has ever seen the script.
Here's the links to the leaked script.

There's no way CBS/P is going to "make" Axanar as I previously stated, they don't need it and again, it opens up the door to other people doing the same thing AP's done. Others would be hoping the IP holders will use their material based on property they didn't own in the first place. That's why IP holders like CBS/P sell licenses.

It would be an ever ongoing legal nightmare.

To be fair (why I don't know) that's not THE script but rather a first-draft of a script that has since (hopefully) been totally re-written because most first-drafts are often horrible, especially when written solo by an amateur whose never tackled the job before.

For what it's worth, I had not heard of this leaked script until now, even though it was reviewed over two and a half months ago. I joined this threat mid-late March and missed that part of the discussion. Up-topic, people spoke of not seeing a verified script, which I now presume they meant the "locked script" Alec Peters claims doesn't exist.

I was going to ask what the chances are that it's a fake, written by someone who wants to discredit Axanar (as if they can't do that themselves), but I suppose the odds are pretty slim.

When it's all over, and all that is left is but to read the Portends in the Coffee Grounds, is it possible that The Victorious Corporate Entity would be awarded possession of any and all of the filmed bits of Prelude (to Downfall)!?

Maybe Alackanar will get made, after all?

After reading the last few pages, This thought occured to me;

If a Jeweler broke into my house and stole the loose precious gems she or he knew were in my safe, and then said to me, "I took them because I can make beautiful settings for them and make them even more beautiful!", I would not be inclined to work together with him...

Or let them have the gems in exchange for a miniscule... very small... piece of the action.

You know I meant "amateur". And just for that, I'm going to flag your spelling / typing errors for the foreseeable future. Every. Single. Error.

An armature, the spinning coils of an electric motor, convert one sort of energy (electric) into another sort (mechanical).

AP acts as an ever spinning mechanism that converts fan film energy into personal profit energy.

I think the observation was a happy building on your typo or wit.
