That gives you some idea of the sheer amount of space available -- and why it was so silly to build-your-own-sound-stage at the outset.
That said, occupancy rises and falls depending on the time of year, the economy, and whatever tax incentives are going on around the country. Yes, lots of productions are leaving Los Angeles. But there are still quite a few studio films and series that are produced here. There are lots of smaller features and shorts and advertising projects that are shot around town, too.
Somehow relevant to this, Axanar's studio is at the edge of the 30-mile zone, the range of locations that are considered "local" for above the line talent. This makes the space feasible for a production to use, without incurring travel costs for their talent.
At the same time, Axanar studio is quite literally around the corner from two larger, more established studios, one of which is a ginormous multi-stage affair. There's a lot of competition in that area. From the plans I've seen, Alec's studio is one giant space. 10k or more square feet. Many studio soundstages have multiple sizes available, along with office space for the productions. Having one studio of one size locks Axanar into a certain kind of client, one who needs that much space. That a more limited market than having several different sized spaces to use.
I'm not an expert on the sound-stage market, though. I have production coordinators who know the nitty-gritties. I'll still hazard a guess that it's going to be "harder" to find clients that need the kind of space he's offering and be willing to go out as far as he is. I could be wrong though. There could be more of a demand than I know

yeah pretty much - when you have a defendant file TWO replies that basically just repeat themselves - and as they coordinate with the Judge and the court - it's pretty clear W&S realize the case isn't getting dismissed (although some issues MIGHT get excluded); and it's time to prep for discovery OR hope that a miracle happens and they can work out some sort of settlement at the ADR hearing...<---- Although given Mr. Peters attitude toward the whole situation so far, I'm pretty sure any real offer made by C/P will be unpalatable in some regard and he won't accept anything that doesn't allow him to either make Axanar in some form and/or keep the financial gain he's experienced out of all this; and THAT kind of settlement offer WON'T be forthcoming from C/P.In other words, don't waste my time arguing this stupid motion to dismiss; we're moving forward.

If I'm some indie director, I don't know diddly about the case or the parties, and I need a place to film for a week, I am probably fine and I don't have to go nuts with my due diligence. All I really should care about is whether the place I'm briefly renting is (a) the lessor (or sublessor)'s to rent and (b ) whether the space/area is zoned for what I want to do. E. g. I don't want someone calling the cops at 2 AM, complaining of a noise violation, that sort of thing.

So if the studio is like a money-draining albatross, and demand for studio space is low, do we suppose then that Axanar are doing 'special low rates' in a bid to get at least a small element of the cost back?
Or would it make them a profit? I mean, Axanar are only renting (what used to be) an empty warehouse. Now it's fully carpeted and green-screened, would the income of renting out a studio exceed the going cost of leasing a warehouse, if you see what I mean?
At least some of the sets were already partially built, IIRC the bridge was a work in progress at the time of the shutdown? Are they standing sets that needed to be struck to make room for the new production, or were they designed so that they could be dismantled and then re-assembled with ease?

Wasn't it established that the rented warehouse doesn't even have a sufficient power supply for all the equipment needed in a studio? So who would want to rent it from them for that purpose, if it can't actually be used properly?
I guess it would be feasible then. Maybe I should read this thread more often.I believe it was recently established by Mr. Peters (or perhaps Mr. Burnett) that the power grid issue had finally been resolved.
