Yes and no. I think that's obviously their motive, but I don't think it's right to assume they got the idea from Lucasfilm. The inclusion of Fuller, Meyer and now Roddenberry just makes too much sense given that they are relying heavily on long-time fans coming on board to boost CBS All Access' subscription numbers, while still wanting to take Trek in a new direction.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out how to do that: load the staff with talented and respected TV veterans with a familiarity and/or fondness for the franchise (Fuller), a legendary figure from the past (Meyer) and a symbolic producer for good optics (Roddenberry).
It wouldn't surprise me to see more of this before the staff and cast is settled.

The interesting thing about that link is this is info that used to be on the Axanar website, but it's not there anymore. I'm sure the Loeb & Loeb team have all of the screen shots they need of it though.

Yea, ya kno, legendary explorer and brilliant commander sounds like current CEO self aggrandizement drivel raised to the power of several centuries. Did this commander build the drive that took him there, or map the paths, or solve the questions of how to navigate a space full of random matter? Design the instruments or learn the navigation? Perform any of the critical steps in the critical order to keep the ship together in conflict? do any of the research or infer any of the science upon any of the things found during exploring? design any of the doubtless deep AI that guides the nuances of day to day survival in space? etc?
