Make the show about the away teams. Keep the captain as a supporting character. That would solve that problem. The flaw being, Star Trek is entertainment. We want to see the star of the series engaged in the action.

Then ya gotta go with the illogical convention that the Capt goes with the landing party. For better or worse, STAR TREK has always been about the captain and the decisions he/she makes, whether it's Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway or Archer.

How many of them go 3900% over budget though?

OK, but I also liked his non-Trek books When Harlie was One and my favorite Time Travel books The Man Who Folded Himself.![]()
Can you imagine, however, not being on the away team? I mean, the Enterprise-D had a compliment of what, 1,000-plus souls? But only like five people regularly got to go off ship. That has to suck for the other 995 people who never get to go anywhere.
David Gerrold was involved during the conception phase of TNG. As I understand it he and GR parted ways prior to the pilot episode being produced (this from a panel I attended in late 1986 where he was talking about his conversations with GR about TNG - but again he didn't stick around to be part of the actual production team. As he described it, his contribution was mainly telling GR "Look a generational ship travelling to another Galaxy and never mentioning Klingons, Vulcans, et. al. isn't going to work for Star Trek fans. If you're going to do it that way, why include 'Star Trek' in the name?"Many? He gave us Tribbles, and the first season of TNG. Do you remember the first season of TNG? Or have you tried to repress it like me?![]()
If you read the book, you'll see that the Man who Fondled himself comes up as a question in the story...sortaI need to stop reading fast. I read that as "The Man Who Fondled Himself."I'm like, "Does that narrow it down?"
Apparently, that was the last time he understood Star Trek fans..
