CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

That's a bit of a ridiculous policy. Shrug.
Actually it's not, because we've seen people come in and post a whole bunch of times in a row and basically drown any conversation. It's easy to skip over one post if you want, but less inviting to skip over 10 in a row from the same person. Some people have wanted to treat the BBS as a soapbox when it's a place for dialog.

I've posted a comment to today's Axanar blog and have received a reply from AP:

Has the March delay been announced anywhere? Also, that "you need to trust us" thing isn't reassuring at all.

No offense, but the more interesting comment from Alec is just above yours. He's delusional.

If by some one in a mlillion chance Axanar is actually still able to continue going into March, I wonder what else will come up that will push production back more?
I find the find the comment about trusting that Peters and his crew know what they are doing kind of funny, because I really don't. Well I guess the entertainment industry vets working on the project do know what they're doing, but I at this point I really question if Peters does.

New reply.

"I was very clear that Jeff and his wife are volunteers and they install carpet. They don’t work on sets.

Again, give us credit we know what we are doing OK?

And we will announce shooting dates when we have them.

Alec"
They could always add carpet to these axanar sets. Maybe even help out with placement or something.

Also didn't answer my question. Oh well. Enough fun for one night!

EDIT: my god Neil. I'd didn't see that. Delusional much?

Trust... Alec Peters?

Really?

In what reality exactly would this be considered a good idea?

Well I guess the entertainment industry vets working on the project do know what they're doing, but I at this point I really question if Peters does.

The entertainment industry vets are mostly actors. That's a wholly different skillset from the vagaries of production schedules. Can't speak to Gerrold; don't know the guy, his position, or his skillset (other than that he's a writer). If there are any others, I haven't noticed them; please do tell.

And do you really think that Peters is the type that is going to listen to advice, no matter how good?

They could always add carpet to these axanar sets. Maybe even help out with placement or something.

Alec demands that we give him credit for knowing what he's doing.

While he's spending money on carpet instead of sets.

And pushing back filming another month.

And getting sued by CBS and Paramount.

And not answering direct, specific questions.

And paying himself a salary from donor money.

Uh huh. Yes. I give him credit for knowing exactly what he's doing.

He's scamming money from naive fans.

At least, that's how it appears to me.

Wow - so Axanar will now take 'forever', eh? (Again, I say this because in response to: "Hey, you guys used backer funds to build a studio for other 'for profit' projects.."; His response was an emphatic (and retconned) "NO! Where did anyone get that idea from?!")

I think the man (Alec Peters) needs psychological help as he's WAY past delusional.

Y'know. he reads as so incredibly deluded that I can't help but think he knows exactly what's going on.

33 references to Star Treks of various flavors, but not one mention of CBS or Paramount or their Copyrights and Trademarks.

In the immortal of words of.. well... you actually...

Asshats.

(edit: wait, was it you? I can't find the original anymore. My six pack is empty, so I think I'm going to put down the beer and go back to watching another mindless Die Hard movie.)

I have been thinking about the industry veteran actors in light of the lawsuit.

The thing is this movie making business has some insular aspects to it; you know someone who gives you a lead/brings you along on this/that shoot, introduces you to a producer, gets you in touch with someone who has a script, etc. This whole business works like that unless you are top in your field. Even then sometimes. You start looking for your next job before your last job is over. There is a big general and eternal shuffling going on all the time trying to find & lock in a coming job while working the job your in.

And also these leads are known to stop. Sometimes for long periods. Getting someone angry, some company angry, crossing one of the unwritten lines, can have you finding no leads and 'no jobs available' if you do find a lead. Mr. Gerrold experienced this for years. I've heard him say that for years he couldn't even get an agent. And this was because he did 'something' that was passed all around this insular business that made him unacceptable for work in the business, even to being able to get an agent. Which he said turned his focus to writing books. But he bitterly speaks of those maybe eight or nine years when he was shunned and no one would take his calls.

If as this productions states, they are wanting known talented actors for this fan or indie or whatever the heck non-profit film, then these known talented actors will also have strong managers and Agents steering them through the industry's clickish, insular, tricky to maneuver entertainment business. The strong Agent of a known talented working actor will filter finances of the films and films that are in litigation. Agents will nix unsound projects for their known working talented actors. And actors will often-to-usually listen to their agents. Agents can wield a lot of power. Their actors' money is where their money comes from.

So I've been wondering how many talented known working actors' Agents will steer their actors away from this film as it stands at this time. The actors themselves may like the script, like the producer, like maybe several things about it and may seem thrilled to the producers' faces.

But everything is then worked out later between the Agent and actor as to 'Is this a good film for you', 'Is this a safe film for your finances', 'Is there a possibility the problems of this production could affect your Future Employment because of its conflict with larger better paying better for your career companies it is in a litigation with?' 'How much do you gain in a possibly perceived stand against the companies you will want to work for in the future?'

So like someone much earlier in this thread mentioned it is entirely feasible that the production may find many of the actors right now who may be expressing great interest in doing this film but are finding their Agents coming back to the production telling them how sorry their actors are to decline working this film due to prior commitments, proctology exams, dying grandmothers, and conflicts with the scheduling.

Which, while the production is in litigation, may have the production frustrated in their attempts to cast the production with actors they wanted, or even with those they would take as a third or fourth choice.

And that may continue to delay filming.

That is absolutely awesome work! You guys are doing a great job at building out the studio! I guess this means that Ares will be able to sustain other projects that will help generate income for the Studio and eventually make it self sustaining?

Yes, exactly.

listen to the Axanar official podcast of 8/30/15, with Alec and the director being interviewed, repeatedly talk about how they are using other people's IP, having a program in place to license their IP to others, a dump on Renegade for not having business smarts about CBS IP and "never having official sanction" (listen for "oh we hired the best lawyers.."), the 'little heads' of fans, and if CBS gets upset that their IP is being used without permission, sorry but they arent using it... then another section about the future of Ares studios, a place where they can show equity investors the quality of their work, and deliberately doing productions to guild auspices so their work can be picked up by CBS in the future, and creating a studio known for great genre movies as they will be known for making quality Star Trek, and how CBS should (but refused to) let them (Axanar) license Star Trek products to resell "because they are working at such a high level"...

listen for this highlight at approx 30:10, and how the rest of the sentence is finished
"but, you do not want to do things that are gonna piss off CBS..."

minutes 20 - 40: http://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/7/c/3/7c3...53190718&hwt=c39fed7a1354f7143c18cfdb4eaa40a8

and this was just a single dip into what they have put online. I just don't know how they think anything can save them..
