CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I was just wondering about something. Although we can speculate about this, that and the other... Is Axanar Productions and Ares Studios two legally separate companies?

Also... Kittens Recreate Kirk v Spock

Axanar Productions, Inc., appears to be the sole legal entity producing Axanar. Of course, it would be interesting to know who owns Axanar Productions. The lawsuit identifies Peters as the "principal," but there could be other owners.

Axanar Productions is also the company listed as a signatory to the SAG-AFTRA contract, not Ares Studios, again suggesting they are not separate entities.

It'll be interesting to see what his announcement on Monday will be...

When pressed about Ares Studios, over the past Week, Alec has stated that there is a forthcoming Fundraiser (Kickstarter) for Ares Studios.

When I pressed him about the status of Ares Studios, he said there were two companies, Axanar pRoductions (Which I can find in California's corporate listing ) and Ares Studios (Which I could not). Further, he then eventually changed his tune, and stated that Under the advice of counsel he could not comment on the profit nature of Ares Studios, and that they have an exciting announcement next week.

What I think happened, is, this lawsuit hit them with their pants down. They didn't think, raising funds, building a studio, purchasing assets, shooting axanar, then using those assets for commercial for profit business was a big deal...

Now they have a lawsuit, and they need a lawyer, he is telling them to shut up. He is probably also advising them that they need to make Ares Studios as legitimate as possible, as quickly as possible.

I actually suspect that the fundraiser for Ares Studios is there to raise funds to start the corporation and purchase the assets Axanar has acquired thus far....

The problem then, he is moving assets between a non profit he runs. to a for profit he owns... that's gotta be real messy come tax season....

I love the fact that he bangs on about being a lawyer, when it reality he's just someone who passed his exams and thereafter didn't do a day in practice (which would explain why he's so clueless when it comes to this case).

Meanwhile, here's the guy CBS and Paramount are bringing in to run their case.

He should be able to work this case from vacation in the Bahamas and make a mint while doing it. He probably hasn't seen a slam dunk case like this in his career.

All he has to do is bring a bag of Axanar Coffee to court!

If this hit him with his pants down, then he simply wasn't paying attention. CBS essentially said in an article from TheWrap (August 2015) that they weren't pleased and investigating their options.

Who has time to pay attention to CBS when your jet setting the Convention Circuit, and setting up your girlfriend's cat to be the eventual successor to Grumpy Cat...

Also, looking at Axanar's website and was blown away by the outstanding qualifications that Alec has

The leader and visionary of the Axanar project, Alec is the epitome of someone who discovers their calling and succeeds in pursuing it. An attorney by training, Alec coached an NCAA Championship volleyball team at USC and with the US National team, then struck off and started five companies earning him an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2003.

Hey!

-- I coach volleyball (OK, eighth grade girls, but still).
-- I have a PhD in political science (which is pretty close to a law degree, right? Am I right?)
-- I have been a Trek fan for 45 years. So I KNOW what Trek is and what REAL fans want.
-- I haven't started any successful businesses, but I won a teaching award once, and I haven't had any businesses go bankrupt, either.

Who knew it was in me all the time?

So, look soon for my Indiegogo pitch for funding my own "Star Trek" fan film. I'll be looking for a horse barn here in NOVA to turn into a sound stage. My daughter got a new camera for Christmas, so she'll do the filming (digital, of course). I'll write, direct, produce, and star (who else?). I'll do open casting from the faculty and students. My wife already has an LLC, so I'll just put everything in her name.

And I don't drink coffee, so don't worry about things like that.

That smile isn't the smile of a friendly man, it's the smile of a shark before it tears into you. Even in his publicity photo, I already feel like I've lost my case, and I'm not even in this! Damn, that requires mass respect!

Apart from it being a working day, what is special about Monday? if it is press release, he has been doing that a good deal on websites

He said earlier that there was some sort of special announcement for Monday. It's somewhere in this thread... somewhere.

"I have to go now. My planet needs me."

P.S. Ares Studios died on the way to the courtroom

Reminds me of General Hammond from SG-1. Who meant serious business. They're screwed. ;)

Here's an interesting article from back in April on Ares Studios. Peters said the studio was "part of the production company Axanar.

Some other money quotes:

"When people saw our 20 minute short film, we got buzz in the industry--better than anything J.J. Abrams is doing."

"We're giving Star Trek fans what they're not getting from the studios."

"We're on the cutting-edge of entertainment media. Others build sets but we're building a real studio style production."

The article also indicated Peters was seeking "incentives" from a local economic development corporation.

It is amazing what one can accomplish when they steal from a popular, fifty-year old IP.

Right... but now he has to do some serious retconning.... it's a shame that in the digital world, he won't get away with it..

And *IF* you think CBS is giving him a hard time... Guy better hope the IRS doesn't look into it..

I can not wait. Alec seems to be broadcasting that

1. Ares Studios is separate from Axanar, and it's own legal entity.

2. There is no Ares Studio, it's a little nickname for part of the warehouse.

Which ever way he goes he's made plenty of statements to contridict himself. Maybe that's why lawyers tell people to stop talking

He can use one of the patches as a coaster.

Check out Alec Peters & Co. statement about their coffee sales (using CBS/Paramount's IP). Wtf?

Axanar Coffee

"Help us fund the Axanar full-length feature film by purchasing Axanar Coffee. A portion of the sales price goes directly to the film-makers of Axanar."
