I have a full article up on AxaMonitor summarizing Monday's joint plaintiff-defense filings with details on settlement talks, an emerging defense, discovery plans — and no Does (yet).

Axanar's Day in Court Won't Be Soon
MAY 2, 2016 — It may be at least a year before Axanar gets its day in court, but a settlement might come sooner, as attorneys for both sides agreed to a settlement hearing before a federal magistrate. Read more »

I'm glad they're moving for summary judgement - better to tie this up quickly than have it drag on. Wonder what the odds are on that happening though........?

Thanks - more for me to read.

A whole year? Looks like it's time for Axanar to fold both figuratively and literally now.

I hope the donors like that fancy new film studio they generously bought for Peters. I'd bet my bottom dollar that's the only thing he's interested in protecting.

Yes, but is it a vast right-wing conspiracy???

No, it's a Gor--I mean, generic alien lizard conspiracy.

Don't know, but typically summary judgment motions are made after the close of discovery, so that won't wrap it up very soon. There could be earlier motions for partial summary judgment on specific issues, though.

Well, quite. But the most vocal majority do indeed seem to like what their money has been spent on even though I wouldn't be quite so equanimous. Peters isn't the only beneficiary, of course, and my mind is often brought back to those images of Burnett and his collection of memorabilia in his office. In my workspace, here, I have a photo of the family, my ipod and a Dora The Explorer pen which I picked up in error when leaving the house this morning and this is my full time job which I don't think I'm in any danger of losing. Compare my paltry collection with what Burnett has stashed at Ares Studios and here's a guy who clearly believes he'll be working from there for quite some time.

Again, what a lucky boy to have such a generous fanbase.

NEW LAWSUIT FILINGS — Request for Alternate Dispute Procedure No. 1 filed. Parties request to Appear Before Judge Charles F. Eick for settlement proceedings. Filed by Plaintiffs CBS Studios Inc, Paramount Pictures Corporation.

— JOINT REPORT Discovery Plan; estimated length of trial 10-15 days, filed by Plaintiffs CBS Studios Inc, Paramount Pictures Corporation.

This is BREAKING. For background on these items, check out this AxaMonitor article »

Did you check with BonesMcCoy2014 about releasing this information? You know, because of timing?

LOL. He exhausted me last week over at the Facebook CBS/P v. Ax group. You folks didn't need me to rassle him as necessary. Plus, I needed a popcorn snack :)

latest

OK, I'm confused.

At the start of all this, CBS/Paramount issued the lawsuit about IP infringement on their property, called Star Trek.

Then Axanar Production claimed that they "disagreed with the characterization of the Axanar works as a 'prequel or otherwise derivative of Star Trek'", so it's NOT Star Trek!

But they counter claimed "the Axanar Works are intended to be 'Star Trek like you have never seen it before.'". So it IS Star Trek!!

But @bonesmccoy2014 states that this is NOT about Star Trek!!!

My head hurts!!!!:brickwall::wtf:;)

"recently occurred"?
I don't think so.
This case is slow moving. There's really not much "news" until there's a hearing and there's a definitive statement from one of the parties.

There's really nothing new in the story other than the speculation. This is the reason I'm raising the question on the timing to TrekZone. I appreciate Matt answering the question.

But, given the history in public relations of some of these loud voices, the timing is beyond coincidence.
Having said this, I urge the voices involved to shift focus to more positive stories.
Regardless of the poor communication style, this is the 50th Anniversary of a great media franchise.
And, one should not allow the "debbie downer" effect to become contagious.

LLAP all!

CBS asking Star Trek Horizon to stop is a recently occurred event. Unless you have a different definition of "recently occurred"

If (as per the new timeline on the excellent Axamonitor site), this could rumble on well into 2017, then what happens to the studio? I mean, they're paying rent from donor funds, after all.

Best case for Axanar is this all gets sorted quickly and they continue to make the film (possibly rewritten to avoid IP infringement), but the longer this drags on, the more of a money siphon the studio is going to become...
