@PhilsStalkers @Jason_Kovalik learned time ago only as good as weakest link. Couldn't perform w a lead w dubious acting talents.

Even Jim Bray, who couldn't take criticism if his life depended on it, weighs in. Interesting that in the glory days, he and Peters attempted to work together. I guess Bray is yet another person in the fan film community hoodwinked and alienated by Peters:

And then there's this:

This isn't the niche topic you might think in the news.

It's trending on Facebook.
I'm attempting to be a voice of reason on the Dragon*Con FB page regarding this - trying to keep people from jumping on a social media bandwagon that might have negative effects on the other fan productions. I got in early once someone posted the news there, and linked to this thread - so that helps, I hope.

The production seems to be an INC, does it state if its an non for profit Inc? Is NV and the other fan films Inc or LLC?

It was stupid for them to well known actors for this. Its was all about ego. They needed to out show the other fan films like NV that had a trek actors in it. Why not just get great new actors and save a TON of money. Im sure the major part of the budget is going towards the actors.

Sorry if this opinion was already posted, but it took them long enough to file a suit.

So long that I think they're only doing it due to the success and popularity of Axanar. Lots of other fan productions out there, but Axanar is top quality. Better than some actual Paramount productions.

Man alive. Pop the popcorn, eh?

Oh...:)

Thanks! Don't mind if I do. Beverage preference?

 :guffaw:

What I do not understand is CBS told them point by point what the issues are, but no one from the Axanar team has said what was the issues.

.

How do you know this is true?
it does not appear to be true. According to Team Axanar, CBS Legal could not tell them exactly what was and was not allowed. They guessed, and apparently guessed wrong.

Part of the whole appeal was to have it professionally acted and produced. I certainly wouldn't have been interested if not for that.
While I have hopes the movie will be salvaged...i don't see it happening.

Well, I asked that on the blog and never got a reply back from Alec. Did CBS tell them not to say anything or did Alec not was to say anything.

Its always that with Alec, He does not want to go into details in public.

As for the actors. Hell, Just get one great actor and then great supporting actors. Again its ego they need to out do the other fan films in every way. The made a HUGE target on them. But from the posting on the legal issue...I keep hearing they say, they where ok unless they where profiting, then there would be legal issues.

Makes sense CBS Legal would not commit themselves without research and thought vis a vis what was acceptable, and what was not.

I've been reading the lawsuit (see: http://www.scribd.com/doc/294302930/Startrek-Lawsuit ) and they are going after everyone involved in the production. This means they are going after costumers, prop and set makers, etc. (just go to that link and search for the following term: Doe Defendants). It's writers, too.

Gadzooks, I hope this doesn't hit fanfic writers but, if it does, I'll take my stuff down. I kinda like my house and want to keep it.

I wonder if this means CBS/Paramount is going to go after the pro Trek writers from the novels who were going to pen some Axanar stories as part of the perks announced last fall?

I can have it rewritten as a pornographic novel in under 15 minutes. 10 if you don't mind excessive uses of several four letter words. :ouch:

It isn't the four letter words that are the problem, it's the excessive use of the word "throbbing"
