And therein lay my own conundrum

Ah. Okay. It was the defense.

And what effect if any does something like this have on the person(s) doing this and/or the legal proceedings?
Well, over here if you violate a court ordered direction like that you risk sanctions. Rarely happens, but it can.

I was under the impression that a fan had redacted them and posted them online.

..... can only be described as a gullible and extremely naive buffoon.
See: Lane, Jonathan

I for one would love to see if there were any Credit Cards opened by Axanar Productions. The Plaintiff doesn't mention those, but I wonder if they actually exist(ed).

I also wonder if the imaginary "investment" group was conceptualized to pay off AP's accrued debts with the cover that they were ACTUALLY paying for the sets and the studio.

Up until now there was enough ambiguity that you could understand why some Axanar fans still had faith. But anyone who read Peters' self admitted plans to extract money from the likes of Netflix and become a Hollywood big shot - all off the back of their own donations - and still argues in favour of him can only be described as a gullible and extremely naive buffoon.

But he's "The Gate Keeper of Trek Fandom!"

Edit: hm. axamonitor says *defense* redacted the files... if so, its like subspace is the repository for all the irony of the universe, and Spaceballs was right. Ludicrous Speed, Now!!!

I'm afraid that's not what @carlosp meant when he said the defense labeled certain things confidential. It would have still been L&L that didn't redact correctly.

"The plaintiffs asked the court to accept some evidence under seal, meaning all or parts would be entered into the record but redacted by the defense, attorneys Winston & Strawn, claiming the information should be protected from public disclosure."

I could see this as W&S specified redactions and L&L did it. Could make this all a circus depending who exactly chose and executed the Adobe redaction of the documents. IANAL, and even I know not to do that.

But... but... the patches are so pretty.

So... the question that begs asking:

"Anyone up for a Kickstarter for a film documentary about the Axanar legal saga? Would certainly be fun!

Yancy

do it mid 80s artsy splitscreen - left showing the story progressing, right showing the contradictory later statements and revelations to the story. Scrub the best synchronized this/that parts of each scene one after the other a few times for emphasis.

Hey Slow Lane, why don't you try spinning this (someone said this was marked as 'Proposed' but with all the damning evidence out there, I'd say chances are better than not that this will be what actually comes down the pipe)

So defendants forced JJ and Justin to be deposed, and defendants find their redactions inexplicably defeated.

*That's* the hollywood the tell-all books seem to talk about...
