The interview with Mr. Gossett certainly reinforced my earlier statement that there are likely grounds to bring a complaint under California’s Unfair Competition Law.

Except the thought of Peters going to bat for all fan films in front of Kamala Harris, is a liittle more than I want to think about right now.

The official Potemkin Pictures response to the new Star Trek fan productions guidelines:

We are all deeply aware that CBS and Paramount have been put in an untenable position in order to protect their intellectual property. The guidelines are what they are. Fortunately, almost all of our productions to date fall in line with almost all the restrictions placed upon fan films.

Potemkin Pictures and its productions will continue to work within the new guidelines as we understand them to the best of our ability. We love Star Trek, and we continue to look forward to sharing our adventures with our fellow fans.
This is going to sound like a weird compliment, but thank god you guys aren't Axanar, and have actual class.

A UCL complaint need not come from the Attorney General's office. The UCL allows any city attorney or prosecutor, as well as any consumer "who has suffered injury in fact and has lost money or property as a result of the unfair competition" to file suit. I would say the Axanar donors would qualify under this standard.

It prob never got past Mike Boredoms moderation, that man has turned into the mini me of Alec and TBH is one of the WORST PR reps I have ever dealt with and in my last job I had to deal with EA (shudders)
Yeah, it didn't get past moderation. I just checked and it's still sitting there "Awaiting Moderation." I have a feeling that's as close as I'll get to people seeing is the screencap I posted earlier.

One tidbit I thought was interesting was a FB comment by @carlosp that the just-released guidelines were offered to Peters as part of the settlement terms in the settlement talks. (He rejected them, of course.)

Mike Bawden really disappointed me. He said the forum would be open to respectful posts and he reneged on his word.
Oh, I knew that statement was going to be full of shit. I don't trust a word out of any of the Administration's mouths. They'll say anything to appear even handed, but quickly fall back on heavy handed tactics, usually involving the blocking and removal of people who just asked a simple question, and even donors. Once they started doing that, the rest of us were screwed.

that's because he couldn't rinse money out of anyone and make a major epic motion picture to rival LOTR - and then say another 5 yrs down the line opppppps sorry my sushi ate the money

Wait, what? Do you have a link to that, or a clip of it? I don't have access to FB but I can sometimes read a link to a comment there when someone posts one.

Ares Digital, and his streaming SciFi channel a reality..
To eventually enter the digital streaming market, using it to market what is spoken of here: "beginning of a whole new way that fans can get the content they want, by funding it themselves."
I didn't notice the last part of this until just now.
Guideline 6
The fan production must only be exhibited or distributed on a no-charge basis and/or shared via streaming services without generating revenue.

You're giving them too much credit. What were they thinking? From what I could tell, they weren't thinking at all.

What were they ***, more like.

[ BZZZT. You have been fined one credit for a violation under the CBSP morality act. ]

This will be a sidebar example in future IP law courses. Left column, poke the bear. Right column, body part removed.
