Technically, the Luna came a bit earlier for its appearance as Riker's Titan in LDS. :) And I think, before that, there was a large-scale physical model made of it for the Las Vegas Trek ride or something of that kind that was officially sanctioned.

Did Tourangeau actually get blackballed by CBS? He was essentially just a paid contractor, like all the other people involved in the Axanar project who were not AP and his closest confidants. I got the impression that the attorneys focused mainly on him and his "front office" personnel responsible for the administrative duties of the project, as opposed to the "hired help".

I'd have to go back through this thread or the prior one, but it seems to me, he actually made a post about how he had been dropped from either a SOTL calendar and/or a cover art project from Pocket Books (which would make it sound like he'd been blackballed in some fashion) after things really hit the fan ??

Ah... Guess I missed that one. It's been such a ... well... Long and Winding Road with this thing, anything's possible at this point. But now, considering his Luna class definitely is in the canon, then yeah, I suspect that anyone that might have had a problem with him, by proxy of the Axanar project, is likely no longer in the decision-making process of who can work on what. Calmer heads have thankfully prevailed and realized who the real perpetrators were.

The Luna Class is owned by CBS, that was part of the contest rules, the winning design rights would go to CBS. So I don't think they really cared if he worked on Axanar for that. He did however design something specifically for Picard that appeared in 2x02.

Tobias Richter has been making models for Star Trek Online the last few years, and he modeled some of the ships that have appeared on Axanar. In fact, the Luna Class model that showed up in Picard is one of his models.

Thomas Marrone lead ship artist on STO designed a few of those patches you could buy. When the lawsuit happened he quietly distanced himself from Axanar for obvious reasons. Though I believe they still sell/give out the patches.

With the recent blurring of the lines between canon vs fanon during the Kurtzman era (hiring artists whom we all know are talented Trek starship/tech fanatics), this may happen more often now than ever before.

It's like if V/C/P hired Franz Joseph, Aridas Sofia and the former crews of Star Station Aurora and MasterCom Data Center to make their many amazing ship designs that we've known for years to be screen-ready. It's a (vicarious) dream come true for many of us, seeing guys like Tourangeau, Richter, Marrone, Versiga, et alles, finally get recognized and make it to the big-time, canonizing their designs that have been otherwise relegated to apocrypha until recently.

Yeah - like 137th Gebirg pointed out, once the dust settled, the powers that be figured out who the real perpetrators were (LFIM and his "front office" cohorts rather than the "hired help" like Tourangeau et al)

From what I've heard, the idea brining in some of the fan designers was all down to Dave Blass, the new production designer for Seasons 2 and 3. He was involved in those circles before and knew of people.

He even asked for cosplay photos to put on 10 Forward set in Episode 1.

They're starting to get it - embrace the fans, not alienate them. Sadly, scenarios like what AP manufactured put a bit of a bump in the road. Thankfully, it seems to be a generally uncommon occurrence. Either way, fan/corporate relations definitely seemed to improve once the V/C/P merger dust settled.

Is there a link to that announcement? I used to get 2 or 3 emails a day from them on average, and now silence. Last thing I heard was that they were prepping for some LA-based shooting back in February, and then silence. Nary a peep after that.

It’s an interesting development and one that ties in with his previous claim of being happy to pay with his own money to complete Axanar and show those haters they were wrong about everything only not right now because he had no money. Ahem.

But seasoned followers of this sorriest of sorry sagas will know that Peters “having no money” and Peters actually having no money aren’t always the same thing.

Alec Peters = Plaintiff - Paul Jenkins = Defendant

And this was a filing by the Plaintiff offering a settlement:

^^^
As for the "Why now?" -- It seems the Judge agrees that Alec Peters Financial Records related to Axanar are in fact relevant 'discoverable evidence' - and the Defendant is in his rights to ask that they be reviewed by an independent 'Special Master' (read: A real/professional and independent financial auditor) - and the results made part of the evidentiary record. (Read: made public)

Plaintiffs (Alec Peters & Co.) have already incurred over $200,000 in legal fees which they are unable to
pay.
Is that only with this case, or the case CBS/Paramount hit him with, or what?
