And I never said it wasn't. All I said was CBS is not responsible for creating any trek that existed before they acquired the rights so unlike the person I was responding to I'm not going to thank them for it. That doesn't mean I think they're wrong for protecting what they own. It just means they only originated a fraction of what they're protecting.
I'm sure there are people working at CBS that were there before the split.

Until CBS bought Viacom in 2000, the only CBS-Trek connection was when they turned down Roddenberry in 1964 because they already had Lost in Space.

Prove it.

And even if you do, I have no idea what you expect. Do you think I'm going to be blinded by the light of your revelation and suddenly give proper homage to CBS for gracing me with it's contribution to trek? Please. I watch CBS for NCIS, SEAL Team and Blue Bloods, and given what they've actually produced, according to JD, they ain't given me no kind of trek that I care about. So prove it. And when you do, you can render unto Caesar all you like.

I unsubscribed from EgoTastic Funtime's channel today. I know, who cares right? Still, I knew JP wasn't a fan of Discovery, but he crossed that gulf of "it's not very good" to "CBS needs to die and Axanar can save Star Trek by being Real True Trek™" really fast, and it's kind of tainted the other videos I used to like watching. Hopefully I can find another fun reviewer who likes to talk Orville.

That's fair enough.

It's technically still the same company, it just split off from Paramount. And I know at least on the merchandising side it was still the same people.

And as I rarely buy the merchandise, that means nothing to me.

My favorite part:
The point of Miller’s question was that the most important creative and production personnel behind the success of Prelude had departed, most of them publicly condemning Peters’ mismanagement. Lane successfully shifted the argument to one of simple arithmetic rather than acknowledging that any production that loses two directors, an editor, two producers and other key crew faces an incredible challenge in duplicating the success of its preceding production.

And yet, I saw another video this afternoon that claims that Alec's gonna have this debacle done by Fall next year.

Yep. i'm already picking out the popcorn flavor and scouting for fiery chasms...

Thanks for listening @carlosp I started last night but couldn't make it past 10 minutes.

Yeah, I watched this guys Axanar video and it's clear he's part of the cult. I really wanted to point out that his merch is most likely in violation of copyright, since it's using actual images from TNG run through a "posterize" filter. I don't know if they're transformative enough to be covered under Fair Use.

Yeah, he bit rather quickly, and as for his merchandise, that might be why he connects with Axanar, because he does seem to use Star Trek imagery mixed with his own stuff and sells it, though it seems a lot of Youtubers are doing that these days.

I've found a few Orville reviewers, but almost all of them are more "Orville is Star Trek / STD sucks!" commentators, and I have no interest in that. I did find one youtuber called "Ren Rants," and she's got a small following, but she seems to weigh the good and bad of each show, whether Orville or DSC. Her reviews are off the cuff, for the most part, and I rather enjoy that. So I'll probably watch her more often.

I realized I left off a couple important personnel from the list in the paragraph you quoted. Here is a more accurate rendition of the challenge Axanar will have in replicating Prelude's success:

Which Crew Not How Many
«The point of Miller’s question was that the most important creative and production personnel behind the success of Prelude had departed, most of them publicly condemning Peters’ mismanagement. Lane successfully shifted the argument to one of simple arithmetic rather than acknowledging that any production that loses two directors, three writers, an editor, two producers, a cinematographer and other key cast and crew faces an incredible challenge in duplicating the success of its preceding production.»

Might be able to claim it's journalism. And I use that term loosely here.

Would that cover merchandise? Using images in the video would be covered by Fair Use for journalism (criticism), but I wouldn't think merchandise would be covered. One image has Picard with a guitar, you could maybe make an argument with that one. But one is just Worf with a caption under him. Both images were run through a "posterize" filter. I wouldn't think either is changed enough to escape a Cease and Desist, but I could be wrong.

I've got versions of the Enterprise that utilize it's basic shape, but which are very different otherwise. I've never put any up for sale because I don't think it would pass legal muster.

Coffee mugs as a medium in which to publish bona fide journalism would be a new one on me. That goes double when whatever text there is accompanying the picture is at most an amusing one-liner.

Surely 'Trek Evangelization' is the next step for Alec. ;)

I am waiting for Star Trek to become a official religion, and for Alec to dub himself Pope, and preach from the newly created 'Church of St. Roddenberry" (in Georgia of course!). His first duty will be to introduce the 'Acts of Axanar' in the newly created Trek Bible (mostly written by Jonathan Lane). CBS will be cast in the role of Satan.

Please donate to the church of Trek, and may Alec bless you all!

So basically the mirror image of this thread and, to a lesser extent, this forum annointing DISCO as trek's one true lord and divine savior? Lol. There is some serious hyperbole going on here between this thread's pot and Egotastic's kettle.

@Carlos: Thanks for the update and the link to the video. I appreciate you dispassionately proving things factually incorrect in some of the arguments used to defend what happened with the Axanar project over the years. It's refreshing to see that posted on occasion in the thread. Keep them honest, Carlos!

Were Jonathan Lane to write the Trek Bible...
This verse from the Original Bible would apply
John 21:25
Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
