Watched - "Vance Major Owen" and "someone we can't talk about yet."
Vance makes a LOT of fan films, few of which are large enough in scope to need a full bridge set.
I am of the opinion that this is reverting to his Ares/Valkyrie/Industry "Studio" concept in which he owns a thing that people use to film their stuff in... of course Stage 9 is in the same state, and in better shape... but Alec is not known for his business acumen.

@urbandefault - my thoughts, exactly. But AGAIN, the fan film community is not exactly full of people with gobs of extra cash lying around.

They use a portable generator to power the bridge monitor displays when the set is open to the public. However it is far to noisy for filming. They recently had an open day where people could view the bridge meet Alec and Gary Graham in person. Around 30 people visited over the course of the day.

Also, it appears that two fan films will be using the set as well theoretically at some point in the future. I won't count those chics before they hatch but I do hope that others are able to put it to good use.

While the bridge set does look nice outside of the electricity issues if i was a fan film I wouldn't want to get involved in axanar in any capacity.

That would be the safest bet to avoid poking the giant bear that is CBS. As urbandefault said above, using the set likely requires a "donation" and just how much that amounts to is crucial to the discussion. That said... if you're starting out as a fan film and you have no existing set/props of your own and you're doing a TOS era fan film, I can see why someone would want to use it despite the potential red flags especially if you're in the southeast US. If it were me, I'd doubly make sure that the film adhere explicitly to the guidelines and not push what is allowed both in spirit and the letter.

It is beyond just the CBS thing. LFIM has had a history in the past of trying to take credit for what other films did because he helped in some capacity. I remember a few times he tried to take credit for helping Cawley secure his studio (I think that is what it was) plus other things. Getting "help" from LFIM comes with a whole bunch of strings attached

I'm wondering if they'll end up shooting porn on their bridge to pay the bills.

For fan films, they're limited by only having a bridge. No corridors (what is Star Trek without corridors?), only part of a transporter stage...
 
I just noticed the old thread is coming up on 2 million views!

I suspect the magic threshold (heh) will be passed early next quarter. Perhaps we should have a friendly (pie or avatar related) wager? Should be a separate topic if anyone wants to do it (and I am specifically saying okay to it so don't sweat it being off-topic; we chat plenty here).

The transporter stage is gone... scrap... didn't fit in the trucks when Alec was moving cross country so it went in the dumpster.
 
Last I heard he was still planing on shooting his 15 min episodes in LA and the bridge wasn't even going to be used. Has this changed? Seems like finishing the bridge has become a priority for him in the past month or so. I might be outta the current loop, I kinda lost interest after the GA move to be honest.

Who knows? He was supposed to have a "big pre-production" meeting at Axacon, but some of the key figures didn't bother to show up.
Methinks he is going back to his original template and building out the bridge so he can (in his fevered dreams) monetize it in some way.
