News CBS files trademark for new series STAR TREK: RELIANT

Didn't they say 20 years will have passed? So how would it be young Picard? Or are we suggesting two shows based on Picard?

Any chance the Picard series might include two actors playing Picard, at different points in his life? Just wondering, if indeed Reliant is named after a ship that Picard served on pre-Stargazer. It would be weird - like TNG All Good Things but as a series.

Not suggesting it's a good idea or a likely idea - just an idea. :bolian:

It's definitely plausible. Sir Patrick said in his announcement that in this series we will see Picard who may not be the Picard we knew from TNG, but has his life experiences behind to guide him and is reflecting on it, likely when the elderly Picard is asked to help the Federation facing a crisis one final time.

I can see this as a series set up at different times of Picard life, from the time he was a young cadet, to the time he commanded the Stargazer, to the the post-Nemesis period (current timeline). If we're lucky, we might get to see him reflecting his time as captain of the Enterprise, supposedly showing scenes from the TNG period that is only "revealed" now.

Perhaps Q will be seen from time to time as well as the Picard story moves from one period in his life to the next. You'll never know, but I'd love to see John DeLancie alongside Sir Patrick one last time as they had lots of chemistry together ;);)

Flashbacks and exploring events in Picard's past, which have some relevance to the events in this series.

Perhaps some Hollywood magic to examine an event from TNG's time, with a de-aged Patrick Stewart, and recreating a TNG set or two. Maybe a scene in the Ent D ready room, after his Borg experience?

They should have him shave it and then grow it back. The entire show should be about fixing that non-existant continuity issue.

That right there, my friend, is litverse level retconning. I LOVE it. I'd put it up there with Traveler Wesley appearing naked for Riker and Troi's wedding thinking it would be traditional Betazoid, and they gave him a lieutenant's uniform to put on...because they had one lying around.

Any further thoughts on why?
Well Starfleet Academy and Ceti Alpha V are fairly self-explanatory as to which series they are, Destiny sounds like Picard, Lower Decks could be animated as well but it doesn't seem like the kind of concept that would appeal to younger audiences. That basically leaves Revolution.
Did they actually say there would be an animated series? I thought this was just a fangasm rumor.

So the animated is definitely going to happen?

Kadin: Conversations…

Kurtzman: It’s a conversation, yeah.
So it's not set in stone yet, but it is in the works somewhere.

I want Star Trek: Lower Decks to basically be a massively expanded version of Red Shirt Diaries, set during TOS episodes:p

The idea of a bunch of young Redshirt officers getting killed on away missions and having orgies during their downtime seems to be interesting for a series. Perhaps CBS can screen it on CW Network :hugegrin:?

CBS didn't stop at Star Trek: Reliant and Destiny. They have also trademarked Star Trek: Revolution, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Ceti Alpha V. Not sure what will all these be used for.

So, now we have Lower Decks as the animated series. Destiny will probably be announced as the Picard series. We'll have Starfleet Academy soon and Ceti Alpha V as the Meyer mini-series. Wondering what Reliant and Revolution will be. Another couple of mini series?

Would they really trademark both 'reliant' and 'lower decks' if they were the same show?

They may have been wishy-washy on the name (Lower Decks may even be a working title at this point). Revolution might also be an alternate title for the Khan series.

Or, they have more shows in the works than has been publicly disclosed.

Each week will be a hilarious half-hour following the lives of lower-deck crew members, trying to get by under the oppressive captaincy of Khan.

Wouldn't it be great if they switched each season up like Archer's later seasons... First season could just be regular work-place comedy under Captain Terrell, then a season where they all have to dress up as Khan's supermen to stay on the crew, then followed by a season where they're working off passage to the nearest Federation Starbase on a Tellarite freighter that picked up their escape pod outside the Genesis system (completely unnoticed by the Enterprise).

"I'm sure the Enterprise is gonna swing by to pick us up any second now..."

*Enterprise leaves system*

What about the rumoured Pike series? Destiny or Revolution could be its title... I think Destiny would be more likely (cos we know Pike's eventual destiny), whereas Revolution could mean a revolution within the Federation and how Picard is involved...

Yeah, a lot of these registered trademarks could be for the same show. That they simply haven't decided for the final title yet, but keep their options open. "Lower Decks" could be set on the "Reliant". Both "Revolution", "Ceti Alpha" and "Reliant" could also be the Khan series. Maybe "Starfleet Academy" is the Picard show, with Picard being the old mentor guy? These registrations are interesting as to guess which directions they currently explore. But they are NO hard evidence for any show to actually make it on screen one day.

Also: Comicbooks, videogames, books, tie in material... all of that could bear these names.

The trademark applications being discussed are all for:
"Entertainment services, namely, a continuing multimedia series featuring drama rendered through the media of television, cable, satellite and broadband systems, and via the Internet, and portable and wireless communication devices; Providing ongoing non-downloadable entertainment multimedia programs featuring drama via a video-on-demand services; providing information in the field of entertainment rendered via the Internet, and portable and wireless communication devices".
Trademarks for videogames and such have different descriptions.

So they want to reserve the name so that no fan-prodoction on the Internet has the same nama as their comicbooks? :D

No. This isn't allowed - otherwise you'd have movie studios trade marking every possible title under the sun, and charging each other huge amounts to use them. A Class 41 trade mark needs to be unique - you can't have two identical trade marks for the same product under two titles.
