If it is the Picard show, maybe it’s a training vessel and Picard is serving as a instructor/mentor. There was some mention of a Starfleet Academy series being discussed at CBS. Get a young, marketable cast to bring in younger audiences and toss in Picard to bring in the old fans.

Picard and Reliant together is like adding two and two and getting five.

Reliant could be Khan taking Joachim's advice and being satisfied with the ship and the freedom it represents, and doing something different than seeking vengeance on Kirk. It would be nice to leave Genesis completely out of it if they went that route.

If it the USS. Reliant, a different starship then the NCC-1864, which gotten destroyed. The series will take place after events that took place in Wrath of Khan. But, it the series that Patrick stewert going to be in name Star Trek Raliant. Then it will be a complete differant starship.

They'd have to retcon the show if they do Khan in his prime since it's not 1996 anymore. Or finally confirm all these shiny new Trek shows are in Kelvinland and not Primeville. Or their own parallel universe.

The reliant is a temporal multidimension Starship (or place) which is the future development of the Discovery spordrive technology. Picard is appointed by the Q continuum to maintain a Time line so mankind is ready for the next evolution into a class 3 civelasation. To accomplish that Picard has to meantain the peace between multiple fraction an avoid temporal coldwars to prove himself & mankind.
