CBS Developing 'Brady Bunch' Reboot

What the hell!?!? Where did The Bradys come from? I can't believe I missed this. How long did it air?

Good grief they have milked this thing beyond all reason.

I was too busy watching ABC's TGIF lineup to care. Actually back then I didn't really know who the Brady Bunch even was, lol.

Waiting for the Happy Days reboot which will be set in the 80's and feature a gay Fonz.

I realize you're joking, but I think a nostalgiac ridden show about the 80s could be really good. I know they kind of tried it with "That 80s Show" but that one was built around the decade, rather than using the decade as a backdrop for stories like "That 70s Show" did.

Plus 2002 was too soon to do That '80s Show.

Not only was it too soon but it's failure made sure That '70s Show would never go passed 1979; making the actors look 10 years older than the characters by the end. All they would've needed to do was tweak the name but now they couldn't. I would've liked to have seen a The Empire Strikes Back episode or an episode focusing on the 1980 Election (with Red for Reagan and Eric for Carter) but, thanks to a technicality, we couldn't.

I fully agree with this, and I'm actually working on an idea for a "dramedy" set in the early 1980's that I can hopefully pitch to someone sometime soon. "That '80s Show" was sound in concept, but failed in actual approach. The correct approach, IMO, is to depict issues of the era through the stories and characters, like they did with "The Wonder Years", or "Family Ties", and not to have the era overtake the characters and story by itself, because then the show becomes a parody of itself in ways.

I think Kelso's obsession with Star Wars was a good enough easter egg. ESB would have definitely blow his mind though. ;)

The show your thinking of was called Freaks and Geeks. It lasted only one season but launched a lot of careers.

If they're not even going to get Mike Lookinland, then why bother? Just use the premise they are planning on, and call it something else.

Does he even act any more? Anyways I think that the last time they did anything with that character he was paralyzed in a racing car crash.

Point taken. But I just can't understand the appeal of this show unless they use Mike Lookinland.

As an aside, when I told my mom they were doing this, she said they should call it 'Step By Step 2' instead, since most of the target audience would likely remember that show instead of The Brady Bunch.

^A lot of people (like myself) know the name The Brady Bunch but have never actually seen an episode and others will have seen the show but forgotten the names of the characters, never mind the actors.

I would be surprised if the name Mike Lookinland rang bells for any more than a minority of viewers nowaways. And the makers are probably not looking for the demographic who does. They're probably just looking for a nice simple concept for a family programme, with a degree of name recognition to boot. His being in the show or not being in the show will in all likelihood make no difference to its success or failure.

Brady Bunch is so dependent on 70's sensibilities that I am not sure a reboot would work.

Unless it's a period piece.

No, it appears to be modern day. I suspect that they're just using the name, basic concept and one of the characters and making the typical modern day sitcom.

So the teen daughter will have a crush on and be the president of the Eminem fan club and promise he will sing at the prom?

WHAT!!
And here I was hoping for a Partridge Family remake first.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.

You do realize that Eminem is pushing forty and has been in the music business for 20 years.
