CBS App won't play Picard

NCC-73515

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Does anyone else have this problem?
I can watch it on a laptop, but not with the CBS app on Android.
When I hit play, the screen goes dark, and then the CBS logo occasionally shows up for like a quarter second, but nothing else happens.
I could watch Disco S2 back then with no issues at all.

I have no problem on Andriod, iOS, AppleTV, or PC Windows 10.........have you, done a hard reboot of the device, uninstalled/reinstalled app, checked your connection speed?

Those would be good options if no shows were playing. Uninstalling/reinstalling might not affect any cached configurartion data either. But configuration corruption could allow for something as esoteric as this to occur. I might power down then restart the device (a hard reboot is a factory reset? That's too drastic a step right now), or delete the cache partition contents... or go into app settings and delete the cache. (Not its data, just the cache...)

A hard reboot is a hard reboot.......not a factory reset.

Difference between Reset and Reboot
Please don’t confuse the terminology here.

A reboot simply restarts your phone. A reset wipes all data to clear bugs.

Difference between Soft and Hard reboot
You might think that the words hard and soft in this context would specify the “reboot intensity”, as ridiculous as this might sound. To some extend you’re right.

The words Soft and Hard come from SOFTware and HARDware.

That means that if you are using software to reboot your Android phone, it’s a SOFT reboot (like rebooting the usual way). Pulling the battery would be a HARD reboot, since it involved the device’s hardware.

Sounds like a software glitch.

I'd just delete the CBS app and reload it.
(all it will cost is a few moments of battery power)

I can watch it fine on the TV app and on my laptop. Watching it on a phone does the show no justice!

This morning the app didn't even load completely and just said they're having issues and I should try again later.
I've reinstalled it, deleted the cache, deleted the data, rebooted the phone, but it still won't play anything (also no Disco anymore which I watched on the same device last year).
I guess they updated the app since the last time I used it, and now it doesn't work on my phone anymore :/

CBSAA used to do some weird things on my laptop, iPad , and iphone. The season 1 DSC episode, The Wolf Inside, wouldn’t play. I could see the episode in the app, but when I clicked it, the episode AFTER “Wolf,” would play. Every other season 1 episode played. Never found out what happened .

But if it ever happens again, I’ll delete the app and re- install.

Sounds like a device issue since nobody else is having it. They do have a support number you can call then hit #3 for tech support. I had to call for a client the other day and even though it said wait time was 130 minutes.......I had a rep on the phone after 3 minutes of holding. Hope you get it sorted.

How old is your phone and did you try DL'n the CBS app through Wi-Fi or 4G?

Hummnn....
I suppose it could be an age thing, unfortunately four years IS 'ancient' with tech. now-a-days.

But I'd still be inclined to think that it's a software/app glitch rather than something CBS has changed.
My Samsung tablet is almost nine years old and I can watch everything on All Access with it.

When is the last time your phone did an Update?
(I have found sometimes that I have to restart my LG Android phone a couple of times to get it to work properly after an update DL)

And are we talking an Android or iPhone device?

Another thought, how good is your Wi-Fi connection on your phone?

The website says it needs Android 5.0 or above, so my 5.1 should still be fine.
There were no new system updates in a while.
Netflix and Youtube run smoothly in HD without buffering problems, so the WiFi connection should be fine.

Well, right there may be your problem.
There was a new Android Security Update put out in December.

Apparently your phone didn't get it?
(or perhaps your phone is too old to accept it?)

I'd try manually doing a download it if you can.

(BTW: Android is up to 9.0 now)

so netflix and youtube run without this update, but cbs can't? ridiculous XD
most system updates aren't immediately (or ever) passed on to users cause phone companies customize their systems too much :/

Well, I am just spitballin' here, trying to be helpful.

I still think it is probably just a glitch in the All Access app when you DL it..
