Game CBS announces new Kelvin Universe mobile game

well according to the interview @saddestmoon posted above, it'll continue plot threads and include characters from the defunct comic book series about the kelvin timeline's starfleet academy and the comics about the enterprise crew set immediately after star trek beyond.

nice to see there's some life left there, but idk i don't play mobile games or read comic books so i'm out of the loop there.

It's the plot threads I don't see lol
Tbh it's cute but a bit boring like I'm not sure about what I'm supposed to do or I always do the same 2 things, or it's just me not getting into it. I got instructor Spock, Cadet uhura, cadet Sulu and Scotty on my team, or I think so lol
But it's a nice thing they did, nice indeed to have something about this timeline.

Ok, the more you play the more interesting it gets because you can travel the galaxy and accept missions. In one of them I had to help the enterprise save Keenser and it's funny he thanked me like '...' lol
Also another player destroyed one of my ships while I was extracting resources and made me lose them, rude :guffaw:
I saw the characters from the starfleet academy comics
The bg music is the best part. Cute little game.

what's the music like? chad seiter did some excellent work on the gorn game, but he worked with giacchino on LOST and fringe and did some orchestration for star trek 2009, so it was expected.

It's Giacchino's theme from St09 mixed with classical pieces. Lovely.

this is the main music more or less (eta: this might be a bit spoiler  so just listen to it)

I’ve been playing the game for about a week now. The music is very good. The missions are okay. The seemingly endless need to mine resources and always come up short is not so good. I don’t remember much Star Trek being about mining Tritanium, Gas, Crystal, Ore, and Dilithium. Okay - now that I write that, Devil in the Dark comes to mind, as well as the ram-scoop scene from Nemesis.

I also really don’t understand the pay aspect. There is a shop where you can burn your real money on game resources, but the purchase options only offer a gamble on what you will get, not a guarantee. I’m not sure who will drop real money with only a slim chance that the shop will give you what you need.

The Star Trek part is good, but the free-to-play skeleton it's wrapped around is a real pain in the butt. If you took the map and missions and ships and made them, say, an Escape Velocity (or Endless Sky, nowadays) mod, I think it'd be a lot of fun, instead of just vaguely obligatory.

Now that my ships have better warp abilities (I'm level 14) I got to explore different factions such as federation (blue. Notice they have both vulcan and new vulcan systems there, I wonder if vulcan has a black hole in it), Romulan (green), Klingon (red) and the cool thing is that the music changes when you get there. The one playing in the federation systems is the most beautiful.

Two things are noticeable:
  1. The rights to the Kelvin-timeline designs have now gone over to CBS hands. That was expected after the "first" trilogy of nuTrek movies are over - CBS owns "Star Trek", but Paramount had probably some exclusivity deal for the run of the movies. Which is now over. Eaglemoss is now allowed to make regular sized Kelvin-models as well, and CBS All Access was allowed to air their new Trek show after "Beyond" finished. Now that they own the design, they gonna' get their money out of it! Even if it's in direct contrast to their own, DIS-era designs. I wonder btw if that's also the reason for the heavy re-design of the nuEnterprise-A? So that Paramunt would have a new, exclusive design if they made the next wave of Kelvin films?
  2. Can this video game serve a similar purpose like ST-online did at the time? That now that it looks as if main series is probably closing, they are continuing the story in video-game (and tie-in material ) form?
  3. Bluestacks Kodi Lucky Patcher
yes exactly the main series is closing even for the form of video game is not about to stay

The Vulcan system has no vulcan planet but there are more spaceships debris around so it feels like you are getting there post Nero's attack. . nice nod to st09!

I just noticed that neither Chekov nor Carol are available as officers to get. They even put T'Pring from the comics, and our main characters have both an enterprise officer and starfleet academy version, but no Chekov :(

I don't understand it. The actor died but the character has not, yet they removed him from both the post beyond comics and now the video game. Is there a reason why they can't use him anymore?
It just adds to the sadness of knowing about what happened to poor Anton that you cannot even see him celebrated through his fictional character.

I suspect everything involving Chekov was put on hold until the next movie could reveal his in-universe fate (JJ said he wasn't going to recast Chekov), but now the film series is cancelled Chekov is in limbo.

I'm guessing it was a last-minute decision not to include Chekov. Check the bio for "Arkady Ivanov."

I found Carol too, she looks similar and has her bio but they call her Wendy Klein. It definitely is a licensing thing so they exclude the characters they, basically, don't want to pay.

I also noticed that there are no references to beyond and its characters aside from a mission involving the Franklin. They also use the old uniforms and not beyond's ones.

I doubt anyone who isn't just throwing five figure sums at the game has gotten there yet, but I noticed there's a section at the north of the map with the various planets from Beyond (Altimid, Fibona, Teenax) behind a warp route that notes you can only proceed at level fifty.

I saw a trailer for this while watching either Gotham or Orville. I forget which. Made JJ trek look like a Star Wars battle which made me laugh.
