An Emmy for STD?

Nothing makes me sadder to see fans (so-called?) of a franchise root actively against that franchise to achieve some recognition or success...

DSC certainly has a shot for certain Emmy Awards (albeit, mostly technical I'm sure), and the franchise only gains notoriety and prestige if the show can be put up as a nominee...let alone be named a winner.

I don't see why ANYONE would not want that.

If they want accolades, they should put the show on TV where people can see it without paying for access.

If the Emmy's were only for what was on free TV, it would be a pretty sparse and unappealing award, for the most part. No one would care.

As far as Emmy's for the show go, I want it to get awards because it is good in comparison to its competition, not because CBS is good at lobbying voters.

Maybe not, but most people I know have no idea the show even exists. Anyway, I have no idea if it's good or not and deserving of an award. I don't have CBS access and would never pay for it.

Obviously, you're going to have less and less to watch as we move forward. The economics of television are simply changing and no one can stop it.

If (for the sake of argument) it won an award, it would make more people interested in checking out the series and/or getting CBS All Access. I figure CBS All Access will want to branch out. Star Trek is just their starting point.

Netflix shows, I believe, are also up for Emmys. We're in a time where focus is moving away from the Broadcast Networks, and even Cable Networks. More and more programming will become native to the Internet as time passes. This is just the beginning.

And if someone discovers Discovery later on, they have an advantage over us in that they can binge the series in one go.

It's actually pretty amazing how much streaming shows and cable (like HBO, etc) are recognized vs. regular network television shows in these awards.

Very telling.

Well, I see I struck a nerve.

There's no nerve to strike. The economics are changing. These networks going streaming is a product of declining advertising revenue. TV is becoming more of a niche product and not reaching the full spectrum of eyeballs it used to.

But that's not how the Emmys or the Oscars work.

Fine for the studios as well.
Of course studios don't care about me. They care about numbers. Right now CBS access numbers are far short of what they hoped for. So, there are more people like me out there, and the studios should care about that.

But, we will see what happens. They are businesses and will try to grow. We are consumers that will help them grow if they give a product that we want. I am probably just a dinosaur that will be left behind as a fossil. And, like I said, I'm fine with that.
