CBS All Access orders three new original series

Also that Jack Parsons Golden Dawn Aleister Crowley idea looks....crazy, but very interesting.

How will they factor in (and feature) L.Ron Hubbard, who helped wreck what Parsons had set up in his house, without pissing off the CO$?

I don't think it's quite enough just yet, but it's getting there. 5-10 original shows, a bit more of their back catalog, and maybe some films, and more people could be convinced.

For example, where is the '80's Twilight Zone series? MASH? How I Met Your Mother? Northern Exposure? Murphy Brown? Newhart? The Munsters? Lots of big gaps even in their TV catalog, some of their most popular shows all time are conspicuously absent. Maybe there are rights issues, but if they can't even get their most popular series streaming, it doesn't bode well.

Why does CBSAA need to have all of those shows for? Half of them are on DVD already (MASH, How I Met Your Mother, Northern Exposure [IIRC]) , the others could be rerun on digital OTA subchannels like Laff or Antenna TV with no problem. Maybe CBS can arrange for CBSAA to get older shows from Showtime or some from its own catalog, but I'm not sure about the other mentioned.

CBS also needs to see about getting more films. For example, can they get all the Trek films, including the JJ movies? Could they perhaps partner with Paramount to stream some of their film catalog?

If they weren't able to work with Paramount and Bad Robot to make a Star Trek show based on the Kelvinverse (particularly as I'd like to see it), how easy would it be to get films from Paramount Pictures?

It wouldn't be as easy, since most of this would require working with others, but right now, I understand people's complaints that there's not enough there to justify the extra charge to their monthly bill. I'm happy to pay an extra $6 because I love Trek, but I totally get the gripe.

Why not let CBS work this one out, and let's take a wait and see approach to this?

80% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. So year $120 a year is a ton!

I'm sorry, but $10.00 a month is a black fly bite. In a just world, Discovery would be on CBS Prime and there would be a purge of current programming similar to this one that would let Discovery be aired on a good prime time slot and succeed (along with all the other new ones mentioned), but this is the real world where a show like Discovery wouldn't survive being on network TV, (it could be shown on The CW, I suppose, but its budget would be cut back severely even more from whatever savings it gets shooting here in Canada), so it can only be on CBS's streaming service and Netflix.

To be fair, the people that are complaining are having to deal with CBSAA, but that doesn't mean that they can't buy the show on Blu-Ray/4K later.

I would be more confident of that if we got word of such a Blu-Ray/DVD announcement for The Good Fight (the spin-off of The Good Wife that is still only available in the US through CBSAA--despite the first season ending earlier this year).

If they do put out a blu-ray release, I think it will probably be quite a while before that happens. Netflix waited 20 months between the release of season 1 of Daredevil and the release of the same season on blu-ray. It was 17 months between the premiere of season 2 on Netflix and the release of that blu-ray. I'm not sure how that compares with other tv releases, but it sure feels like a while.

Also, I'm not aware of any actual sales figures, but I'm a huge DD fan and I didn't bother getting the blu-ray. Can't imagine too many people shelled out the dough for it, given that it'll never leave Netflix.

If Discovery was on Netflix USA like it was everywhere else then the fanbase would go back to bitching about something that matters, like the show not matching the timeline. ;)

I plan on streaming it through not really legal ways, so screw CBSAA.

Is that a good idea, at all? The show can't be on CBS Prime, so it has to be on some streaming service, and it might as well be CBS All Access and Netflix elsewhere on the planet. Barring my idea of having a crime/reality purge similar to the Rural Purge of the early 1970's that would allow Discovery to thrive on a good night without being canceled, what would you expect CBS to do to have Discovery on the main network without you downloading the show illegally?:vulcan:
