Cause and Effect

Thanks for those tech points on the NES and stuff. Frankly, it's above my head... I'm not really good with machines. I have never seen any wave lines or anything you described on my NES, but it's good to know if it does occur at some point in the future, I know who I can bug. :)

Insurrection had a great scene, with Riker ordering Geordi to eject the core and Geordi responding, "I just did."

I liked that scene on two levels: 1) a "yes, finally it works!" against the trope of "election systems off-line" (why they don't have physical back-up switches ala the deflector I don't know!) and 2) It showcased the deep bond of teamwork and respect that Riker and LaForge had "forged" over 10+ years on the Enterprise-D and -E.

It also served to make Geordi look competent. Granted it was for dramatic reasons, but I felt the show often made him look less than competent. The movies, on the other hand, did a great job of it, I guess at the expense of any real character work with him (aside from him looking at the sunset in Insurrection, something that an episode probably would have made into a "B" plot).

I love the scene in First Contact when he's getting an engineering away team together, picking people, ensuring engineering is seen after, and issuing a request to check the environmental controls.

That seems like either a paradox or a truism. :p
Oh my gosh! I just realized I miswrote this. I meant to say "I'm curious what kind of life your friend lived, where Family Guy was his first exposure to parallel universes."

Shivkala, interesting points about the movies.

Well, my first exposure to Family Guy certainly didn't come from Family Guy. (Like with so many bits of Americana, Star Trek helped there.)
