Catastrophe (the book) for Connor.

Yesterday I downloaded "Catastrophe - The Story of Bernard L. Madoff, the Man Who Swindled the World" from Audible.com. Since many here are interested in Connor's new venture I thought I would do a quick review. Pictures are not included so I decided not to dilute the "Get your fix here" thread and put it in a new thread that can quickly fade away.

The book is written by husband and wife team Deborah Strober and Gerald Strober. On Audible.com Connor Trinneer is listed as Narrator and you can find the book by searching his name and choosing "narrated by". My cost as a gold member was just under $10 and regular price is about $14. That is the low end for audio books but this is a short recording at 4 hours 15 min. Most of my books range from 11 to 20 hours with some reaching 40. Content is pretty dry and jumps back and forth between who the victims are and how it all happened. A lot of effort in the beginning is put towards defending the Jewish community and pointing out that while Madoff is Jewish, so were most of his victims. While the parts about how he did it are interesting, the only thing that kept my interest is having lost 39 percent of my 401K retirement last year in the collapse.

Now for the part about Connor. His voice lends well to audio books. He has a clear, neutral accent that is easy to understand. The recording itself is a bit boomy. I wish they had cut back the upper-bass range when processing. Sadly the book has no area for theatrical voicing's and I expect the Lance Armstrong book to be the same way. Connor does a good job with the material and I expect it to get him more work in this field. He is dynamic when the book calls for it but mostly it is like listening to an economics professor. Once I get to the end I plan to put a review on Audible this weekend. If I wrote a book I would put him on the short list of narrator's to consider for the recording.

Thanks for this review. I'm certainly waiting for these recordings to become available with anticipation ...
