Checking out YouTube there's some really interesting sketchbooks that show intimidating levels of art skill, but provide great inspiration:

I finished this about six months ago. Acrylic and Oil paint. I just wish I had made it a bit larger, its only IIRC 16" x 12".

Edit: Let me know if thats too big. I don't know how to scale it down.

OK, now I do. Good job! You did that steam train in a similar thread last year, right?

Yep that was me. I usually try to paint more, but these are the last two I've been able to get done.

Next up is a Mass Effect painting from my girlfriend for Christmas that I should probably start right about...now.

Sorry to hear that, you could do postcards and such, like guilty pleasure artist Thomas Kinkade (who I heard died quite young recently).

On two recent occasions I've gone to two life drawing sessions (which I hear you must do to brush up on human anatomy).

Looking forward to seeing some more of your artwork, Ted. I'd very much enjoy seeing anything you've recently completed, however simple or minor.

Lately I've been doing silly cartoon doodles in a cheap sketchpad.

Silly or not, they might look fantastic. Post some of them if you feel comfortable doing so! :)

Ok, I've applied for a illustration course after the new year and it's being tutored by Sholto Walker. I'm a bit intimidated.

Do you think it was a good idea for me to join a formal art course at such short notice?

I'd say whatever your investment was has paid and is continuing to pay dividends. This is very good stuff you've posted in this thread and you have a lot of promise. I'm sure everyone here is impressed.

    These are all excellent!

I've dabbled in drawing over the course of my life, but have never been able to quite hone it to a level of any skill. I still doodle here and there, but occasionally come up with something I like, but again, it is absolutely not one of my skill-sets. (Seriously, you should see how awful my storyboards look)

I'll see if I can't dig up some old sketches from middle school and maybe share them later. If/until then, keep up the great work everyone!

I'm looking forward to your doodles. The real secret is doing at least one drawing a day (or many every week).

Yeah, add me to the list of people who'd like to see doubleoh's hand-drawn art. He's very talented in other fields and it makes me curious about how good his artwork might be.

I'm looking forward to his doodling. Today I've spent all late morning and afternoon doing seven A4 pages worth of drawings.

I like this stylised but inventive wall art on YouTube:
