Yeah, but at least they should've lampshaded it by having Castle show some unease about seeing that cliche developing before his eyes. Given his nature as a justifiably genre-savvy character, it felt out of character for him to fail to acknowledge the trope.
But if he had done that, the case would have been solved before the first commercial.
