Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoilers

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

But if he had done that, the case would have been solved before the first commercial.

Yeah, but at least they should've lampshaded it by having Castle show some unease about seeing that cliche developing before his eyes. Given his nature as a justifiably genre-savvy character, it felt out of character for him to fail to acknowledge the trope.

^Very good point.

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

When are they gonna get Connor Trinneer on to play Detective Ryan's brother? :)

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

^Why would they? Do you just think there's a resemblance, or have the actors played brothers before?

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

i wish this show would come with a big 'silly episode' or 'serious episode' sign at the start.

or mix it together more in some episodes.

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

These "serious" episodes seem so out of tone with the bulk of the series. So next week we're back to yukking it up? Which is fine by me, 'cause that's the version of the show I like, but when it goes from grins and giggles to grim and gritty and back, I get whiplash.

Yeah, but real life is more like that. There are yukks, and then there are yucks.

Castle and Beckett investigate the murder of a lottery winner, leaving them with plenty of suspects to look into. Meanwhile, Martha inherits money she feels she doesn't deserve.

Spotted a mistake in tonight's episode:
The last number on the lottery ticket was 79. Neither of the multi-state jackpots in the U.S., (nor NY's Lotto) have numbers that go that high.

That's okay. No one's phone number begins with 555, either.

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Anyone think Beckett might actually have a lot of money already?

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

I think the lottery numbers were chosen to avoid the "Lost" effect. They didn't want everyone to play the "Castle" numbers.

I liked that Beckett asked for something that would make her feel "Shinny."

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Beckett was singing "Move that ass, Move that ass, Get on the floor" :guffaw:

Or shiny. Her shins look okay. :)

I was wondering how Beckett has such a nice NY loft on a detective's salary. It's not like she's a rich reporter like Lois Lane!

The shipper in me can't take it anymore.

Otherwise, it was a solid ep :p

Re: Castle: Season 3 (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) - Discussion & Spoi

Because she's a TV protagonist.

As soon as we learned that the victim was giving his money away out of guilt and talking about the past catching up with him, I said to myself, "He stole the lottery ticket." Wasn't that hard to figure out. So this was one of those episodes where the key clue is easy for the audience to catch (at least for me) but the characters don't even consider it until late in the game so that they can pad the mystery out to an hour with a lengthy string of false leads. And this case was more elaborate than most, with all sorts of suspects and motives piled on to an implausible degree. (Well, not that much more elaborate than typical for this show, but still.)

But that was a wonderful thing Castle did at the end, endowing that scholarship to honor Beckett's mother. I'm getting misty-eyed just writing about it. It's a wonderful gesture of love.

I really was hoping the butler HAD done it!

Another pair of misty eyes here.

She does come from a high class/wealthy family. It was established in the past that she was a "rich kid", but unlike Castle who lived up the life, the death of her mother grounded her and drove her into the law enforcement career.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we found out she had been left a lot of money when her mother died.

Yeah, I thought that was really nice too. In fact my wife went "awwwww" when he did it.
